Wow! The action and adventure in this book amazing. I have loved all the character growth. I feel that Melissa does a fantastic job at balancing each character.

I hate when a lead character spends over half the book whining and complaining. Scarlett and also prince Callan spent the majority of this book just acting like children. Scarlett's step into her power was also underwhelming and not really believable to me. This one definitely suffered from what I call "2nd book syndrome" in where I read over 500 pages of just...nothing. There was no real plot development, the characters got on my last nerve, and it was a slog to get through *FOR ME*. This is just my opinion. Do I plan on trying the 3rd book? Yes, I'd like to continue the series and give it a shot, only because it's been so high on my tbr and I want to give it a chance
book 2 was better
I liked book 2 more thank book 1. There was more world building. Still not a huge fan of the MC but I love the side characters enough to keep reading.

Melissa does not know how to weave in a plot. The first 85% of this I was asking what is the point? Then she pulled in reasoning in the last 15%. I thought her inability to weave in world building would improve after book one, but apparently not. She probably should have made the entire series 2 books and avoid superfluous details. I do think she has a plot but she spends too much of her books having me absolutely bored outta my skull.
