4.1 AVERAGE

adventurous medium-paced

I think I’ll settle for a 4.25. I was going back and forth between a 4 star and 4.5 star read so I’ll just put it right in the middle.

I LOVE all the characters in this series. (Minus Callan, he can eat rocks) (and also minus all the villains obviously) I loved the reveals we got and the little tidbits of info that foreshadow more to come in the rest of the series. This plot is working HARD. My only complaint is that I found some aspects to be a bit redundant or drawn out. The whole Callan plot line… I was over it. He became too whiney and it annoyed me. The words Scarlett and Sorin declare to each other got to be a bit redundant after a while. Still a really solid Fanro read!

This one was slightly better because the story was moving along but there is so much fighting and miscommunication it’s so annoying.

Even better than the first! Couldn't stop reading this one. Yes, sometimes the characters make you want to slap them for being infuriating and keeping secrets but don't you want to do that to people in real life too? I love the portrayal of trauma and getting to see some character growth. And that ending, ugh! Love it.

Solid 2.75.

As with the first book the "good part" starts about 2/3 of the way through, where more of the deeper story is revealed just before the cliffhanger - nearly rage quite the book just before the twist. While there are bits and pieces of the overarching story woven into the first 2/3 of the book it can get lost amongst all of constant fighting/ hot & cold between Scarlet & Sorin, Prince Callan's creepy obsession of Scarlett, and Scarlett's moping and whining. Not sure if I will read the rest of the books or not, maybe give it one more in the series to see if the pacing and story development jerkiness is smoothed out. Overall, the story progresses so very little in 525 pages, VERY LITTLE, and I'm just not sure I even like Scarlett. Elements I did love: all the banter between the "side characters" and the found family aspect, and how the magic of the oracle is depicted.

This was SIGNIFICANTLY better than the first one. Absolutely cruised through it and really enjoyed every aspect. Loved how this ended too on a cliff hanger but not entirely a cliff hanger??

Scarlett is the epitome of a sassy, independent, and stubborn FMC -- and I love her. This book really developed her trust issues and I enjoyed the slow burn! Genuinely enjoyed the scene
Spoiler where it's a flashback of her and her mum going to the beach to get blood bonded with her guardian. Showed the trust she had in her mother and interesting to see how it develops into adulthood where she has none....

Excited for the next one :)

I liked it, kinda?? A lot of the details feel very similar to an SJM book which kinda makes me like it a little less, just feels like a ripoff of that, don’t think I’m going to continue the series…
