A good story but nothing too special, the characters were just alright - I didn’t find myself really connecting with any of them. However, the ending was pretty good - I love a good villain.

If you’re a fan of cheesy horror films, this one is for you!

Horror stories normally aren’t something I’d classify as “fun” but I found myself constantly racing to the next page and anticipating the next kill. There are tons of nods and Easter eggs to classic horror cinema that made an already engaging read with its own in-world logic even more satisfying.

dark mysterious tense

this was definitely a letdown.  I was super intrigued by the premise, and the opening third or so had me hooked, but the plot sort of went off the rails and was so separate from what I expected, I didn't really enjoy it.
specifically, I was not a fan of how the second half leaned more into the supernatural elements, I think I would have preferred a more grounded, slasher-esque story but with this same premise

"Yes. No. I don't f*cking know! We left reality behind three bodies ago!"
Is it just me, or have the past couple of years been absolutely bumpin' for new horror?
Enter Burn The Negative by Josh Winning!
The cult favourite horror movie, The Guesthouse, is considered cursed. Eight people involved with the 90s movie died in ways similar to deaths from the movie.
Now it's being remade as It Feeds.
Original Guesthouse star Laura Warren, formerly Polly Tremaine, was spared the same fate as others. She changed her name to blend into obscurity, and as a journalist is finding eerie similarities on the new set.
After all, the never-identified Needle Man is still lurking about. And the deaths are continuing.
I love the trope of revisiting classic (albeit fictional) haunted pop culture media.
Burn The Negative is a most worthy player in the genre. Recommended!

I wanted to like this book but it just didn’t grip me the whole way through.
