This book is super fun and campy (I mean, come on, you gotta love the cover). I HIGHLY recommend to fans of any horror, whether it be books or movies. It's full of fun Easter eggs (Polly's dress was reminding me of The Shining the whole time; they go to the town of Craven, California at one point; Laura's obsession with Winona Ryder; horror remakes as a genre in general)... and to anyone with a Hollywood/LA fascination.
(I love creepy haunted Hollywood things) and of COURSE it has a jaded, chain-smoking psychic character.
The book reprehends Hollywood for its remakes, treatment of child stars, and exploitative attitude as it takes you into the "curse" (?) of The Needleman character. I really like all of the little things at the end of the chapters like the screenshots from the internet, or old parts of The Guesthouse script. And it is CREEPY and TWISTY and I honestly didn't know who to trust here! I was really guessing up until the last page of who or what had done the murders. By the last 70% of the book I couldn't put it down. I really didn't trust Amy, Beverly, OR Mike LOL!!
A perfect creepy summer read.
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC!

Journalist Laura is sent to report on the remake of a 90s slasher movie that was rumoured to be cursed after multiple deaths of people involved with its production. But Laura herself was the child start of the original movie and starts to believe the curse is real when the cycle starts over again...
I really enjoyed this! From the nostalgic 90s slasher moments in the first half of the book to the more paranormal events of the latter half, I had a great time.

A lot of fun. Very creepy moments and a lot to say about horror movies without letting the meta get in the way of the chills.
I know this completely goes against the social commentary of the whole book but MAN this needs to be made into a horror movie

the first 40% of the book had me HOOKED I was so excited and then it completely lost me. Honestly there was such a good plot in here but it’s gone and lost now.
Edit: Coming back to this and maybe I’m being too harsh. The writing is great and there was a story- just a story I did not like. It’s like I’m on a train about to enjoy the scenery that was advertised only for it to be completely different. Other people might oo and aa over it but I’m just left disappointed.
