Rachel Caine is a master of building tension; I can’t read any of her books in one session because I get too anxious and need to put them down for a breather. I love the way this book ended and set up the continuation of the series. I can’t wait to read more!
Once again, I finished this one and purchased the next in the series! These books are so good!
A young girl is kidnapped, 3 young women go missing. A phone call for help from a woman in Wolfhunter River. A new documentary to discredit Gwen Proctor.
All of this begins the novel, the latest in the series about Gwen and her infamous ex-husband, serial killer Melvin Royal. Now Gwen is pulled into helping the woman who called her begging for help. What unfolds is a horrifying story of a town, evil to its core.
Gwen must come to terms with Sam and his past, knowing who to trust and who to question, while fiercely protecting her children.
I liked the dark and scary theme of this book. I thought the plot was good, but I did think it was a bit unrealistic how the shooting and imprisonments scenes played out. However, I will continue with the series to find out what comes next for this family.

Full of surprises
This book was just as exciting and thrilling as the first two! Full of emotional and edge of your seat surprises.

I'm not sure how I never read book 3 until now but at least it finally happened, right?
In Wolfhunter River, Gwen is just sort of dealing with a crap ton of stuff right now. Whether it's her seriously disturbed serial killer of a husband or just doing every day mom things to keep her children safe and sound. She honestly deserves a giant glass of wine, or something, with all things she juggles with.
I wasn't expecting to see Sam go through what he did though. That completely shocked me and I'm not sure if I will ever recover from it all. In some ways, well maybe all the ways, I just feel bad for Gwen and her kids. They need happiness and less people trying to go after them or stalk them. Seriously.
In the end, I will definitely be diving into the next book because I need more of Gwen being a bad ass mom.

A great addition to the series, I truly believe this series should be a movie or a TV series !
Reading this book reminded me of why I like this series- just when you think things will get boring or go a certain way- Caine surprises you with an epic suspense tale.
Definitely looking forward to the next one in this 5 book series

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I've really enjoyed all the Gwen Proctor books so far -- I hope there are more to come. Gwen is a strong woman dealing with a difficult situation, and I love that, while she doesn't need anyone's help, she accepts it for the sake of her children.
With that said, I have to admit this is my least favorite of the books so far. I was originally drawn to these books because I was fascinated by the story of the BTK Killer and his family -- how could they not have known what was going on right under their noses? A novelized version of that from the wife's point of view was exactly the sort of insight I was looking for. Now that Gwen's husband is dead and gone, I didn't find this story as compelling as previous ones. I sort of wish good ol' Melvin was still around for the sake of the story. It also seemed like a stretch that Gwen and her family got involved in the events of this book. It made more sense when they were naturally drawn in by their proximity to Melvin -- this seemed a little forced to me.
I loved the opening scene -- I'd like to see more of Gwen's internal conflict about her past, and I'd love to know more about what kind of person she was when she married Melvin. She tells us that she was very different then, but I hope future books give us a closer look at that. I'm also interested in knowing more about how she interacts with people who don't hate her, but still have a hard time understanding how she could have missed all the warning signs. People like me, I guess.
I felt that the true story of what was going on in Wolfhunter came kind of out of nowhere -- I would have liked a bit more foreshadowing of the weirdness, and maybe a bit more of a clue about Sparks, the cult and its long history in the town. It felt wrapped up too quickly to me, once the truth finally came out. I also missed Kezia and Javi -- I like them and was sorry we didn't see more of them in this story.
A great series that I recommend often -- I hope this isn't the end!
