Firstly I'd like to thank Thomas & Mercer for a eARC on Netgalley for an honest review! Having loved the first two in the series I also had to get the physical copy.
I wasn't sure what this book would be about after the end of book two. I had no doubt that this adult thriller would be vivid and action packed, no detail left to the imagination. I wasn't disappointed. Caine describes everything to the very last detail with sickening accuracy. I definitely had complaints from my partner about the amount of times I was shouting out while reading!
The character relationships really developed in this book. Gwen and Sam getting closer all the time but of course their pasts are still haunting them. Lanny and Connor are really growing up and I enjoyed the part they played in this book. Gwen giving them more of a part when this is their lives too. She obviously realised this.
I really recommend this series for fan of adult fiction - thrillers.

In the third installment of the Stillhouse Lake series we find Gwen on the offensive. She has survived her serial killer ex husband and has decided not to run anymore. She gets drawn into a murder investigation in the backwoods hamlet of Wolfhunter River, where a woman has asked for her help. Could it be a trap?
While not as absorbing as the first book, Stillhouse Lake, i’m continuously impressed with Gwen’s strength, and bravery. I was also kept interested and intrigued by the unfolding mystery. I don’t want to give too much plot away, because half the fun is in the experience, but i can’t wait to see what happens next. I bet she’d make a great detective.

This feels like a filler book now that this is going to be a series. This installment is still action-packed and kept me at the edge of my seat but plot-wise for the characters there isn't much going on until the end.
I look forward to the next book, though.

I'm only continue reading this series because I bought all three additional books after reading the first one some years ago. The writing is so poorly and predictable... 🙈🤷🏼
