This is the third installment in the Stillhouse Lake series, and I recommend reading this series in order.
This is a dark, suspenseful read. It was "fun" (?) trying to figure out what was going down in this small, backwards town. So much happens and at times it seems like too much, but that's good, as it keeps it unpredictable. Some scenes are quite graphic and it's breathtaking (in a bad way) to think, and realize, that there are crazies out there like in this story.
This was my least favorite book in the series, so far; but i still enjoyed it. Overall, this book moved at a slower pace than the other books in the series, which contributes to the lower rating.
One of my issues with this one was Gwen walking into a likely inferno and taking her kids with her. The whole time I'm yelling at her in my head, "what are you thinking? What are you doing?" But, it's fiction, and if she hadn't taken the call and felt she needed to help, there wouldn't have been a story. 🤷♀️ But I was still irritated. As with the second book, I did enjoy the head jumping and getting the POV from various characters.
The story begins with one arc, adds another, and then adds a third. At times you're left wondering why, but it's all nicely interwoven and wrapped up in the end. And, the overall arc brings about a transition to a new storyline and path for Gwen, et al, to travel. I do look forward to starting the next book.
This review is my own opinion and will be cross-posted.

I loved this book!! Crazy story!! Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!!
This series has not disappointed me yet. It is a quick and exciting read thus far. I enjoy the characters and plot of each novel. This novel revisits Gwen, her 2 children, and Sam as they try to live from her ex-husband's horrible serial killer crimes. Gwen deals with a new "villain," a person out for revenge for Gwen's ex for killing her daughter. Gwen has another surprising mystery to solve as well to which she goes to Wolfhunter River to solve the case.
I enjoyed this novel a lot. It was very suspenseful and kept me wanting to know more. I keep going back to this series as each novel surprises me. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

Another outstanding chapter of this series. How Rachel Caine never topped some of the 'big guns' of the genre is beyond me. I've read my fair share of those authors and a series has never captured my attention and kept it quite like this one.
Very clever way to tie up her story (mostly) yet pave the way for many and many books to come.
While no means perfect, this series is just VERY readable and entertaining and I love the feeling of not being sure which character to trust

I found this book not as good, as the first one, but much better, than the second book.

Another phenomenal installment in this chilling series. I'm not usually a big fan of series, but I make exceptions for really good ones. This is one of those.
It's not my favorite plot of the three I've read, but it kept me guessing and on edge the entire time, as usual! 4 solid stars.

I appreciated the plot but the pacing was brutally slow and unnecessarily detailed.
