Wolfhunter River

Wolfhunter River was one of my most anticipated reads of the year so when I got my hands on it last week, I dropped everything and started it immediately. I love this series and I’m happy to report, the third book was just as fast paced and chilling as the other two!
🔪🔪🔪
Gwen Proctor is still on edge and alert in an attempt to keep her kids safe. She’s trying to give her kids a normal life but Melvin’s followers are still out there. She gets calls all the time from people who need her help. Usually she doesn’t get involved but this call from Marlene is different. She can’t get her out of her mind so when Marlene’s daughter calls and says her mama is dead, Gwen knows she needs to act. There’s something about this story that pulls her in and she needs to help. The family heads to Wolfhunter, a corrupt and dark town that grips its hold on Gwen and her family. The stalkers are closing in, waiting for her to slip. This town won’t let her escape but Gwen will stop at nothing to protect her kids.

The first third of the book is updating the reader on the family, which is fantastic because I’m already invested in them so I loved it. The rest is a heart pounding, on the edge of your seat ride that I’ve come to appreciate and expect from Rachel Caine. I love the action and suspense in this series and I’m ecstatic that Wolfhunter River lived up to my anticipation. The ending was fabulous, open to leaving this series as a trilogy or possibly open to more books in the future. As a huge fan of these books, my vote goes towards continuing Gwen Proctors story! For me, Wolfhunter River was a solid 4.5/5 stars. Thank you @amazonpublishing for this advance reader in exchange for my honest review. Look for this third installment April 23rd!

Still going strong

While not as good as the first two in my opinion, I was very interested in how this third book would play out after the finale of the last installment. Caine has definitely set up the driving force for a fourth story so I'm excited to move on.

3 stars!

This is the third book to the Stillhouse Lake series, and definitely not one of my favorites. I LOVE the first two books of this series, but I just am not a series reader and I think I'm bored with the story. I just feel like the same things keep happening in each book, and I'm ready to be done. I do love Rachel's writing and would totally read another thriller by her (if it wasn't part of this series). I will not be reading the fourth and last book of this series . . .

Дослушивала перед сном, утром проснулась - решила переслушать. Ну не может такого быть, думаю. Приснился мне этот бред.
Нет, не приснился.

4.5 Stars! I loved the first two books in the series. Honestly, I'm usually not a series readers because you know how series usually go - all down hill. But not Stillhouse Lake Series! I have loved each book and this one was no different. As a mom, Gwen really won me over in Book #1 with her tenacious protection of her children. I wasn't sure how this book was going to work since things seemed to get "tied up" in Killman Creek, but omg Wolfhunter River was thrilling! So many storylines and subplots twists and characters. I swear at some point in the story everyone was a suspect. Maybe Gwen's paranoia is rubbing off on me. Ha! I loved Lanny and Connor's roles in this story. Tremendous series - I would highly suggest reading the first two books before this one. Without giving away anything, this story does end neatly (NO cliffhangers or wait 6 months to see what happens next), but certainly a storyline opening for a book #4.

I received an ARC.

On reread, I'm bumping this up to 4 stars and I don't entirely understand why my past self had such a problem with it. Maybe it's that I've read Bitter Falls before and so I know how this two-part arc ends? Anyway, the story is compelling and it's definitely interesting to see how the characters have moved on from the previous book but the past is still hanging over their heads at all times.

3.5 stars. Did I enjoy being back with these characters in this world? Yes. Did I find the mystery compelling? Mostly (I also found it slightly predictable, tbh). But at the same time, I was just constantly left with the niggling feeling that this book didn't need to exist. The series could easily have been a duology and felt entirely complete. This could have been a series that introduced new characters, a new world, a new history. It could have been an effective start to something rather than feeling like it was stuck midway between an old series and a new direction. And when it starts with the kidnapping of a young girl and then she basically disappears from the story for half the book? It felt a little disjointed.

So at the end of the day, I just don't really know how I feel about this. I liked it. But I didn't like it. But I liked it a lot. But I didn't like it. ARGH.

Another great installment in the Stillhouse Lake series!

I think this is my favorite of this series so far. I liked the direction the series is moving towards and felt like I was reading a Jack Reacher book! This was fast paced and hard to put down.

This series is so well written! Wolfhunter River is the THIRD in the series. I recommend reading, but please read them in order...starting with Stillhouse Lake and then Killman Creek. If you are not afraid of true psychological and twisted storylines, this series is for you! Kudos to the author for writing her characters so well - I think I have a little crush on Mr. Sam Cade!
