In the third installment of the Stillhouse Lake series we find Gwen on the offensive. She has survived her serial killer ex husband and has decided not to run anymore. She gets drawn into a murder investigation in the backwoods hamlet of Wolfhunter River, where a woman has asked for her help. Could it be a trap?
While not as absorbing as the first book, Stillhouse Lake, i’m continuously impressed with Gwen’s strength, and bravery. I was also kept interested and intrigued by the unfolding mystery. I don’t want to give too much plot away, because half the fun is in the experience, but i can’t wait to see what happens next. I bet she’d make a great detective.

In this book, Gwen is going to try to get her story told this time, however, that changes when she gets ambushed by someone who wants to hurt her. Now, Sam is hiding something, and she doesn't know what to do next.
I hated how Sam acted in this book. He was a coward at times, and he was keeping things from Gwen, he did make it better in the end, but still it was annoying.
I loved Gwen and her kids though, they are awesome. I can't wait to read more.

I'm hooked on this series! And 1-3 all are FREE on Kindle Unlimited!
This is another series I really love. I got an ARC for the third book (Wolfhunter River) and just recently finished it. I recommend these to anyone who asks for a good psychological thriller! I love Gwen and the strength she portrays for herself and her kids. The sacrifices she makes for their safety and the determination of a mother keeps me hooked on these books!
One of the things that makes this series SO good, is that the inciting is something that you cannot forget. Honestly, it has been quite a bit of time since I read Stillhouse Lake (book 1) and Killman Creek (book 2). So, starting book 3, I knew EVERYTHING would flood back into my mind (and it did).
I was about 30% into this book, and we still hadn't really gotten into the meat of the story, but actually that was so well thought out. That first 30% was setup and it ALL paid off at the end.
Rachel Caine really knew how to ramp up tension. She has really gotten "good" at putting her characters in "harm's way". Gwen is a powerful force, but she also has her vulnerabilities. Sam, too. No one in these stories are ALWAYS going to win in a fight.
The story was sad, and it had a lot of conciquences. The slow reveal was good. The Reader was always given enough information, but never too much...for the reveals were well hidden and were all worth it.
RIP - Rachel Caine. She has been one of my favorite authors. Every time I read another of her books, I think of the great loss that has occurred. All our love to her family and may she rest in peace.

No surprise this book was so good. It was the first to kind of step away from the torment of Melvin Royal, although not completely, and I am excited.
They are helping out this mother and daughter who are caught up in this big mess and are being hunted.
There are a lot of missing women and a little girl. So they are trying to find who has them. It was fast-paced as always and thrilling.
I can't wait to read the next one!

Not my favorite of the series so far. It felt repetitive but things sped up in the last few chapters.

Why can I not give this book more than 5 stars?! This was another in the series that I could not put down. I read until 2am (which I don’t normally do). There was so much suspense and so many levels to the mystery, it was like the commercials “But wait! There’s more!!” I absolutely love Rachel Caine and her writing style. Her books are so easy to read and her storylines are creative enough to keep a reader enthralled. This series is a must read!!
