There's just something about this series that is so addictive and a whole lot of fun. Dark and terrifying at times, filled with some good old mystery murders/kidnapping. For those of you that don't know, the Stillhouse Lake series follow Gwen and her family as they try to live the most normal life they can after finding out that her husband is a bloodthirsty serial killer. This creates a lot of tension and Gwen will do anything to protect her family from those who want revenge for what her husband did.

The first 1/3 of this book was a bit slower and not really settled in. I had no idea which direction the story would take, but once things got going I was completely immersed. There's so much suspense and action throughout the book that I was never really out of it.

I'm very interested to see what's going to happen next, since this book sets up the series in a direction that could either be a lot of fun or just something that can get really tiresome. However, if you want a really fast-paced thriller with tons of enjoyment, dynamic characters and a gritty tone, then definitely pick up this series!

Lots of dead people in this book. LOTS.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. Great series! I enjoyed the 3rd book in the series. I like how strong Gwen is, and that she will do whatever it takes to protect her kids. The first 2/3 of the book were moving along at a nice pace, with a few story lines, but the last 1/3 seemed a bit chaotic and full. I don't want to explain more because I don't want to give anything away.

Great third addition to the series

I LOVE THESE BOOKS!

I don't know why the initial reviewers were so hard on this. Gwen/Gina has come a long way from the person she was in Stillhouse Lake. I quite enjoyed this addition that takes away from Melvin to an extent. Sure, the pyscho squad is still out there but the new dangers faced kept the book fast paced and exciting. There was an awful lot going on and totally hard to believe so much bad would keep happening to one family...but this is fiction and I read to be entertained.
For me this ranks with the other two books and I look forward to the new direction the series is taking off in.

One thing I was -.- on was that Gwen made it clear Melvin hated that name and went by Mel. So why did he sign one of his letters sent post humously to her as Melvin?
fast-paced

Started slower than the others, still ok but seemed forced. Then it picked up again.

A Lot Going On Here

So much going underneath huge town cover up. Thrilling, suspenseful and engaging. Highly recommend this series. Rachel Caine definitely has a way with words.

Very clever way to tie up her story (mostly) yet pave the way for many and many books to come.

While no means perfect, this series is just VERY readable and entertaining and I love the feeling of not being sure which character to trust
