I cannot understand why this book is rated so highly. Perhaps in its original text it reads better but everything about this book, from the pace to the characters was not enjoyable. Every sentence was a question. It seemed to be trying too hard to force the relationship and attempting to force the reader to think deeply and emotionally about the events but I did not resonate with anything the narrator said and instead spent the whole book questioning what the reason for the book was. Did not enjoy.

it's so easy to just curl into a ball and never let anyone see your face or hear your thoughts. it's so easy to let life pass by without really living. it’s comforting in a way and always consistent. but so miserable and so lonely.......this story reallyyyyy struck a cord with me..…..reading was a pleasure in relatability but a nightmare in possibilities. and yearning and yearning and yearning. i will be thinking back on this a lot, especially when i catch myself pulling away like raif.
