4.02 AVERAGE

Starting this with a PSA: This book is WAY more New Adult than it is Young Adult. It's extremely spicy, and some of the non-spicy content could also be considered pretty mature as well. They are in hell, after all.

While I loved Kingdom of the Wicked, this book was even better. I love Kerri Maniscalco's take on Hell, reading about how she pictures everything and the various locations. It feels very plausible, especially being in the Seven Circles. I enjoyed the character of Fauna (so help me, if she turns out evil, I will cry), the return of Anir, and some other returning characters. Emilia's character development is just as delicious as in the first one.
Speaking of delicious, one of my biggest gripes about the first one was just how big of a "character" food was in it, and how it felt almost like it was 25% cookbook- this one fixes that very well. She still has her love for cooking, it's still something she retreats to for happiness, but it's not so heavily included that it feels like it was its own character.

While I would have loved to see more of the princes in greater detail, this is only the second book and what we do see of them is fantastic. It does seem a little bit of falling into the "everyone wants to bone the MC" trope but I think a good portion is simply to get under Wrath's skin.

The "plot twists" in this one are also a lot better and I didn't predict them like I did with the first. Hindsight is 20/20 and she left plenty of clues for us, but they were hidden well enough. I'd even spoiled myself on something that's in the synopsis for the third book (iykyk) and it still was so well handled that it managed to shock me anyway.

I'm so excited for the last book.

Not terrible, but definitely a major case of middle book syndrome. SO MUCH filler. There is barely anything interesting that happens in this entire book. Probably not even deserving of the three since only the last chapter or 2 were good, but I'm currently in that directly post reading state where the book feels like it was better than it really was so...

probably going to change to a 2 i hate this book actually sm fuck the last 2 chapters i hope the third is better

4.5 Stars to be exact.

1. This book was more than 50% NA (new adult) rather than YA (young adult)
2. Honestly just amazing, The high fantasy mixed with mystery/ mythology and legends concept was very unique and very intriguing. The idea and its execution was wicked!

4.5

3,75/5

This book was all filler (or excessive plotting), and I’m gutted. I still gave it two stars because I hold so much hope for this plot and the theme.

Every time there was an opportunity for the FMC character growth she just… didn’t. I know it’s a YA, but still, she needed a backbone with some maturity. And the MMC, needed some more personality, more about him.

Will I finish this series? Yes because I need to believe this entire book wasn’t just to lead to nothing

I miss reading fantasy books like this!!

WRATH!!!! LITERALLY OBSESSED. I cannot wait for the last book.

This one was my least favorite in the series. I think it was really jarring to go from
Emilia being soooo hell bent on saving her sister to then going to being HELLA lustful for Wrath. It just felt kind of idk if jarring is the right word, but odd? I guess. Also, kind of?? Inappropriate? Like, it was such a divergence from what the first book had illustrated her as, it seemed kind of odd.
That said, I did enjoy the book, and I liked learning about the new characters
and worlds
we were introduced to. Unfortunately, a huge twist in this book I accidentally spoiled for myself so that was a real bummer. But I still enjoyed it nonetheless. I just wish
the character arc matched the beginning more, I guess.
BUT I really enjoy Manscalco's writing and the audiobook for the second book was just as beautifully done as the first!
