Such a beautiful tribute to our pets. I cried. MZ has a way with words and has such a special way of articulating what our pets mean to us. Definitely recommend for all dog people (and even for any kinda pet people, the stories will make you smile and laugh and cry)

I'm convinced Markus Zusak could write a book about grocery lists and it would be one of the most poetic and emotionally overflowed works of literature ever published and I would be the first person to rate it 5 stars.

I don't think it's possible to read this and not fall in love with Reuben, Archer, and Frosty. Zusak's love for them just pours from the page

Zusak's deeply abiding lovefor his animals lives throughout the pages of his three dog memoir (with his two cats making cameos too). There is an incredibly strong commitment in the Zusak's family to the dogs' place within them, but if your personal experience with dogs has been less than ideal, then the descriptions of frightening and risky interactions with others will be overwhelming, along with the exhausting and expensive upkeep throughout their lifespans. It is a litany of mayhem and hijinks and undying devotion.
