Loved this book, Zusak is a master with words.
A book for any dog lover.

I ugly-cried with this one because Zusak brought back so much of my own experience with dogs. I also laughed a lot. The title is accurate. It’s the truth and it’s lovely.

While this may not be the best book ever, I was pretty smitten. As a mom of 2 crazy rescue dogs and a stray cat that met me at the mailbox I could relate to much of the story! I was laughing one minute and crying before it was over (not many books do that to me). A wonderful tribute to all our wild pets and all the reasons we love them.

Wow. I’m feeling wonderfully impacted by the raw emotion Zusak describes so perfectly that comes with having a dog, specifically a dog that’s hard to love. This was incredibly impactful and beautifully written. I listened to the audiobook and hearing him narrate it took the story to another level.

Zusak shares his personal life with us as he writes about the pets that he and his wife Mika had raised during the 2000s and the 10s, mainly the rambunctious dogs that he rescued and would become a important part of his life. There are just so many moments of joy, humor, emotion and bittersweet emotions. The last chapters, of course, definitely are more on tragedy and healing. It’s a touching and very emotional book that Zusak fans and pet lovers will relate to for sure. A (100%/Outstanding)
