I discovered the Riyria Revelations after doing a search for something new and well regarded. I finished all three within a month’s span back in 2018. I loved them. I bought and read The Age of Myth (and have the remaining series in my TBR) and bought the prequel series Riyria Chronicles but have never read them. Recently I stumbled upon the crowd sourced Riyria Revelations hardcover set and, remembering how much I enjoyed the series, bought it. They are beautiful and it lead me to A) backing the hardcovers for Riyria Chronicles and B) deciding to dive into the prequel series.

Riyria is the name of given to the two thieves Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater. The Crown Tower tells the story of how these two got pushed together. We are also introduced to Gwen who is an important part of Revelations.

Riyria is a high fantasy series filled with derring do and humor. The banter between Royce and Hadrian is simply fantastic. It reminds me of the quips from things like Lethal Weapon and Plains, Trains, and Automobiles. If you’ve read Revelations, you know how the story ends. But you don’t need to have read that series to start here.

The Crown Tower is a heist story. Which is perfect for thieves. It’s an Ocean’s 11 with only 2. There are some great twists and turns. It’s fun.

One of the best prequels I have read. I agree with the author that reading in the published order is the way to go. Very cool to see the beginning when you know how these guys end up. Less action but a good mix of storylines for the characters with some great scenes. Looking forward to The Rose and Thorn and hoping Mr. Sullivan will pen a few more!!

Great prequel

This book grabbed my interest in the first paragraph. Beautifully written. What I like best is that the reader gets to know all of the main characters. Great story too. Just started the next book in the series

Terrific novel - This is how Royce and Hadrian meet and it definitely lives up to their growing legend.

I read the Riyria Revelations, then I thought I would wait a while before reading this book. I mean, it's reasonable to take a break after six volumes in a universe, right? But I did have a sample chapter, just sitting there in the Kindle app. Just. Sitting. It wouldn't really hurt to just take a peek, would it?

I think you know what happened next. In a few minutes, there was less money in my bank account, but I had the full novel in my greedy hands, so I could get on with learning how Royce and Hadrian met. I read far more slowly this time, taking more time to savor the story. I know all too well that there's only one more novel available at the moment, and I'm trying to make myself wait for that one. Trying is the operative word, here. I enjoy Sullivan's work far too much to be very disciplined about it.

I absolutely recommend ALL of the books, but I do think it might be best to read them in the order in which they were published.

Spectacular. After finishing the revelations, this is exactly what I needed.
