Rory's ended up back in her small town to take care of her pregnant twin sister. The town is full of memories she'd rather forget, a handsome man she's not sure she can commit to, and to top it all off, she gets attacked by a "bear" coming home from the bar....and it seems like that "bear" might've turned her into a werewolf.

"Such Sharp Teeth" is a fast-paced horror-comedy about what a nightmare it is to be stuck in a small town you're not comfortable in anym...I mean, what a nightmare it is to turn into a werewolf. The writing managed to stay darkly comedic while still making all of Rory's changes impactful and just gross enough to provoke a reaction. I felt a lot of sympathy for Rory despite the fact that she, self-admittedly, isn't always a great person - no one deserves to become a werewolf, no matter how unlikeable they can be.

Ian, her love interest, seems like a nice enough guy but, unfortunately, wasn't fleshed out enough to leave too much of an impact on me. I also felt like the author was attempting to draw a parallel between becoming a werewolf and pregnancy - you lose control of your own body through both. I don't feel this parallel really hit home, and it felt a little awkward. There's also something not quite defined about how her werewolf transformation brings on rage that brings on memories of a trauma she experienced as a child. However, even with these drawbacks, I enjoyed being along for the ride as Rory found herself transforming in more ways than one.

You tease me with a threesome mention and don't make it gay?! How dare!!!
This could've been werewolf Jennifer's Body! (And I include that as a spoiler because just after I asked myself "Who bit her? Who turned her?" I flipped to the last page to see what the last line of the book is and... well... spoilers for that.)

There's clearly a lot of love for the werewolf genre but the story was just fine. I didn't make the connection to the larger themes until after the sort-of climax. And I mean way after. Like, I was reading the last paragraph of the book. And no, I don't mean the last page of the story, I mean the last paragraph of the Acknowledgements section.
Usually, writers (of books, tv, and movies) put in a plot line including sexual assault as a gimmick, like "Look at me, I can mention a super serious topic so you, the audience, have to take me serious now too." Harrison doesn't do that here, and the conversations between Rory, Mia, and Cyndi are treated with care and respect, but the connection between transforming and raging and healing from previous anger wasn't really there for me, until I read that last bit about how The Body Keeps the Score was an influence.

I have never really been a werewolf girlie, but I did watch Teen Wolf all the way through even when it got bad. Those are some of the most exciting and fun parts of the book, even when it gets a little spooky scary ew that's gross.

It's also kinda written like there was room given for a sequel? If that's the case, the book is good enough that I would read that too.

A solid horror story. The description is pretty accurate to what the whole book is about. It was interesting to read how the whole "werewolf" thing was used as a vehicle for female rage- especially to heavy trauma. I did end up liking the MC, she is easy to root for and all I wanted to give her was a hug (even though she would probably beat me up). It was also interesting that "werewolf" as also used to describe not being in control of your body, similar to how the sister's pregnancy was talked about throughout the book. Overall, it was solid.

An entertaining read once I got past my initial dislike of the protagonist. I gave up reading the book for a few weeks and read other books and comics before giving the book a second chance. I’m glad that I did.

Rory is traumatised and deeply hurt and angry. So incredibly angry as the narrative progresses and you discover how deep the hurt goes and how much she was let down by her mother as a child.
there is an incident of CSA/exposure when Rory was a kid.

I did enjoy reading the transformation sequences and Rory’s battle with her own anger and rage as well as the wolf’s bloodlust.
