I can’t comprehend how, in a book about working for President Obama, working in the Obama Administration could take a backseat to anything, let alone a man-obsessed hot mess express, but this book made it happen. This story could have happened anywhere (some details aside) in any often-unfulfilling job. Author herself aside, the writing was a hodge podge of random anecdotes mixed with forgettable characters — even though these were her “best friends” and recurring individuals throughout the book. Couldn’t have told you the difference from one person to the next if my life depended on it. I came to this book hoping for an inspiring women-in-politics/-government story, and in all honesty, I’m just thrilled how my trajectory is going compared to this story.

I greatly enjoyed this book both for its insights behind the scene at the Obama White House and the account of the relationship challenges of a woman in her 20s.  Well written.  The audiobook read by the author adds vibrancy to the account.

3.5. I appreciated the different perspective that Dorey-Stein brought to the Obama Whitehouse and she has a fun, readable style. However, I really wish this book didn’t centre so much around her Whitehouse love interest and affair because he sounds truly insufferable and low-key abusive. It was painful to read and even more painful to endure her continued affection for him (no judgement, we’ve all been there but STILL). A superficial book that could have been so much more.

Gossipy, entertaining, fun peek into white house life. Good writing, a little trashy

It was like listening to a friend talk about the same problems with their boyfriend over and over. There are more than two men in the world, girl! Also, the fawning over President Obama after every time she cheated on her boyfriend was an interesting choice.
