Another enjoyable installment in this series as Commissario Brunetti works on a case involving glass-making on the Venetian island of Murano. As usual Brunetti’s cases showcase both the beauty and history of Venice along with the dangers posed to Venetian life by pollution and corruption. One of the great pleasures of the series is Brunetti’s home life and the meals his wife Paola cooks for him. I was hungry just reading about them. A very entertaining read.

Thanks to the people from the University of Cambrigde who planned the CAE readings I will stay away from Donna Leon's books and her Commissario Brunetti forever and ever.

One of my favorites in this series so far. Theories about pollution from glass blowing factories, a worker searching for answers about his daughter’s disability and a death. All the plot lines came together well and also included some great detail about the glass industry in Venice.

[Although this is a hardcover edition, the one I read was actually an ebook, on Nook, which I could not find (no surprise!) under the various editions.]

I have read several books in this series and love the visits to Venice and in this case, the island of Murano, famous for glass-making. As often happens Commissario Brunetti is asked to look into something that is not an official case yet. Two glass-making factories, families at odds, chemical spills, environmental protests, a sick child, all in contrast to the smooth workings (during this book) among the Commissario's colleagues, his family, boats between various places, mostly wonderful food, and the coming of spring. The ending felt abrupt, but that was partly due to the "extra" pages I thought I had to read being ads for other books in the series and two previews.

A fairly standard English cozy style mystery - neither the plot nor the characters are particularly interesting except for the lovingly detailed portrayal of the modern city of Venice.
