Wow! Where do I start with this?! Firstly RUN and get this book! It will not disappoint you! It is riveting, emotional, FMC is a freaking BADASS, it's hot

arc copy provided in exchange for an honest review. this in no way changes my rating or review.

this book was... not for me.

i barely made it through, skimming the last 25% or so, and the only thing keeping it above 1 star was a cute little side character. also the talking crow.

the main character really irritated me - for a 28yo the fmc had a maturity level on par with a 16yo. her default was hating everyone and running away, and while sometimes that was warranted, sometimes it was... not. i got whiplash with her mood swings. she needed to sit down and actually use her brain and think things through sometimes.

the worldbuilding was also lacking. i'm so sorry but i had no idea what was happening, out of nowhere this gang became a massive plot point having never been mentioned before, and then monsters appeared out of the blue?? and i guessed 99% of the plot twists, even while skimming - and my brain was not working its hardest.

also where was the romance. they fucked, hated each other (uncertain why), liked each other, fucked again, tried to kill each other, declared that they'd fallen for each other?? WHEN. HOW.

also the author had opinions on sex work that i disagreed with, and showed a fair bit of fatphobia in this book.

basically this one was not for me. nonetheless, i thank the author, publisher and netgalley for the arc.

Thank you NegGalley so allowing me to read Blood Queen!!

3.5/5
I picked this up at noon and was done with it before dinner! The book moved fairly quickly and it was an interesting read. The story was something to easily invest it and the side characters made the book fun and unique.

I loved the plot of a FMC being able to do whatever she wanted to secure her kingdom. The MMC seemed a little one sided to me and the relationship seemed forced. One minute she hates him but because he does the bare minimum she is in love again. I think this could be cleared up with other books if it becomes a series.

The ending is what got me. I didn’t see the last twist coming but is there going to be a second book?? If not, the ending is not it.

This is a book for new/learning fantasy readers. The world building is minimal and easy to grasp and the characters don’t have too much depth to them. Worth the read but only if there’s a second book!

Incredibly fast paced and full of plot twists to keep the reader hooked. Admittedly some of the plot twists you can see coming but that’s didn’t lessen their impact o the story at all. Really interesting to have both the protagonists have a morally grey character, watching them bounce off each other and grow their relationship gives you all the warm cosy feelings, and the spice is definitely spicy!!! The concept of the soul shard is really interesting, and something I hope is explored more on the next book. Plus it comes with the added bonus of a talking crow! Layla is a fiery, hot tempered main character who is more than capable of looking after herself, and I must say it was nice ti have a female mc in a fantasy book who was older that eighteen. Really looking forward to diving into the next book!

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for an eARC!

This book felt way too childish for me. The characters didn’t feel developed and they felt too much like children. The main mystery wasn’t explained until the last 5 pages which felt rushed and underwhelming. I would have loved to see more character development and just story development. The characters didn’t seem to grow and learn from their mistakes. I just didn’t mesh well with the story.

A stabby FMC, moody, broody MMC, arranged marriage, MY WIFE, touch her and

Fast-paced, quick read with some action, light spice, animal sidekicks, & leaves you on the edge of a cliff at the end. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the sequel to this book.

This was something original and intriguing. Queen Layla is badass, she's strong, feisty, daring and a vigilante shadow warrior, but is also somewhat naive and vulnerable in her isolation as a feared and notorious ruler.
Her relationship with Prince Rune is intense, murderous, very love hate, and full of sexual tension and sarcastic banter.
The magic abilities that Royals possess, and the concept of soul shards and animal companions was a nice addition too.
There's tons of tropes: arranged marriage, enemy to lover, secret identities, touch her/die... and the story is full of violence, action, mystery, tragedy and betrayals, and fast paced.
The final chapters have some significant build up and twists, including the villains of the story, but the ending!!!!!?? I need book 2 asap to recover!

I received this ARC by Victory Editing NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

First, thank you to the author and NetGalley for giving me this arc! This was definitely a fun read. Blood Queen is a NA Fantasy that follows the main character, Layla, as she attempts to bring stability back to her kingdom after a slew of murders plague her people. Things get thrown off course for her upon the arrival of the foreign prince that she has been promised by her parents to marry.

The book was fairly quick and the world building was easy to keep up with. My only complaint is that the banter between Layla and Rune was fun, but their relationship felt too rushed and ran too hot and cold. I absolutely love an enemies to lovers, but the constant attempts to kill one another made this story feel juvenile.

With that being said, it was a fun read and after the ending, I am highly anticipating reading the sequel!
