Blood Queen

Incredibly fast paced and full of plot twists to keep the reader hooked. Admittedly some of the plot twists you can see coming but that’s didn’t lessen their impact o the story at all. Really interesting to have both the protagonists have a morally grey character, watching them bounce off each other and grow their relationship gives you all the warm cosy feelings, and the spice is definitely spicy!!! The concept of the soul shard is really interesting, and something I hope is explored more on the next book. Plus it comes with the added bonus of a talking crow! Layla is a fiery, hot tempered main character who is more than capable of looking after herself, and I must say it was nice ti have a female mc in a fantasy book who was older that eighteen. Really looking forward to diving into the next book!

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for an eARC!

This book felt way too childish for me. The characters didn’t feel developed and they felt too much like children. The main mystery wasn’t explained until the last 5 pages which felt rushed and underwhelming. I would have loved to see more character development and just story development. The characters didn’t seem to grow and learn from their mistakes. I just didn’t mesh well with the story.

A stabby FMC, moody, broody MMC, arranged marriage, MY WIFE, touch her and

Fast-paced, quick read with some action, light spice, animal sidekicks, & leaves you on the edge of a cliff at the end. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the sequel to this book.

This was something original and intriguing. Queen Layla is badass, she's strong, feisty, daring and a vigilante shadow warrior, but is also somewhat naive and vulnerable in her isolation as a feared and notorious ruler.
Her relationship with Prince Rune is intense, murderous, very love hate, and full of sexual tension and sarcastic banter.
The magic abilities that Royals possess, and the concept of soul shards and animal companions was a nice addition too.
There's tons of tropes: arranged marriage, enemy to lover, secret identities, touch her/die... and the story is full of violence, action, mystery, tragedy and betrayals, and fast paced.
The final chapters have some significant build up and twists, including the villains of the story, but the ending!!!!!?? I need book 2 asap to recover!

First, thank you to the author and NetGalley for giving me this arc! This was definitely a fun read. Blood Queen is a NA Fantasy that follows the main character, Layla, as she attempts to bring stability back to her kingdom after a slew of murders plague her people. Things get thrown off course for her upon the arrival of the foreign prince that she has been promised by her parents to marry.

The book was fairly quick and the world building was easy to keep up with. My only complaint is that the banter between Layla and Rune was fun, but their relationship felt too rushed and ran too hot and cold. I absolutely love an enemies to lovers, but the constant attempts to kill one another made this story feel juvenile.

With that being said, it was a fun read and after the ending, I am highly anticipating reading the sequel!

3.5 stars.

Although this story was entertaining; it was very predictable. Layla is next in line to the throne, but she is so fixated on avenging her parents murder that she doesn't even realize what is happening in her kingdom right under her nose. She was so easily manipulated by her advisor that she didn't even realize that she was a pawn in the grand scheme of things. Known as the Blood Queen who stalked the nights murdering those, she felt deserved vigilante justice; she never truly questioned why she did what she was doing.

With her arranged marriage looming in the forefront Layla decides to have one last night of freedom, but she never imagined that her ne nightstand was going to be a permanent fixture in her life.

Throughout this story Layla started to question the things she was led to believe. When her betrothed Rune challenged her at every turn. Layla in my opinion wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. The signs were literally right in her face, and she turned a blind eye to each and every one of them.

With a kingdom on the verge of rebellion and distrust amongst her royal subjects Layla starts to put the pieces together one by one leading her to an inevitable conclusion. For 5 years she left the fate of her kingdom in the hands of the very person she trusted blindly without reservation and now it may be too late to regain control of her throne.

Well that was a roller coaster ride…… this book grabs you after the first chapter and keeps you guessing on which way will the author take you…. You follow along cause you are so engaged with the story and characters until bam …. She pulls the rug out …. The end!!!

It’s a great book I wish book 2 was out already so I would not be mad at the author for a cliffhanger like that but I will forgive her after book 2❤️

Thank you Netgalley for the free ARC.

We follow Queen Layla as her parents were murdered and she desperately tries to find the murderers. She is feared among her people as she is the Blood Queen (she murdered a man who tried to murder his daughter) and people witnessed it.
She is to marry the Prince of Garo. As she completes killing missions and meets Prince Rune, she notices that something is terribly wrong in her country.

SPOILER AHEAD.

This was entertaining but also dissapointing. It had everything to be a great story but the MMC (Prince with a bad rep and strength as his magic) was lacking backbone. He was strong but badly trained and also leader of a feared Clan? How does that work. Also clumsy?
The FMC is supposed to be a badass but she is annoyingly naive (and has major pickme vibes). 25% in and I basically predicted the whole plot. It was not surprising and predictable. Unfortunately the writing was very repetitive.

I really tried to like this. 2.5/5
