Not really my thing. I love witches and when i came across this audio book i wanted to give it a chance. but I'm not a fan of the constant telling how bad and evil witches are. And how they hate happyness etc. etc.

I read this as a kid, but I'd forgotten a lot of it, and it took me most of the book to figure out where Belladonna's magic was coming from. Terrance was my favorite character and I loved the baby kraken.

A fun children's read. What's not to love about a a black-magic practicing warlock at that mid-life crisis point in life where it is time to find himself a black-magic practicing witch and settle down to raise a family. How do you find one? You have a competition based loosely on a beauty pageant of course!

Enter horribly ugly, old, contentious, forgetful, cheating, mean, and argumentative witches with familiars ranging from an octopus, to an aardvark, to a couple of chickens, and one white-magic practicing, wanna-be black-magic witch with the help of an orphan boy and his slimy pet/familiar worm named Rover and anything can happen.

Definitely one I'd recommend and would love to read to my 5yo niece.

This was such a fun book to revisit. It made me laugh all over again, and though short, it's got such rich details and frankly really impressive pacing for a book for kids. The characters are so vivid, they jump off the page. I'm not sure how much nostalgia is coloring this, but I really did have a good time, so if you need a relaxing fun read, definitely recommend this one.

Quiet enjoyable with some funny ideas. Not great, but not a waste of time either. I loved the scenes with Arriman and the baby kraken.

I've been revisiting some childhood favorites, and I gotta say, this pleasantly surprised me. It was absolutely charming and witty, I found myself giggling at several points in this book. The only thing that really bothered me is how the message kind of seemed to be that Arriman didn't want to marry most of the witches because they were ugly, and although Belladonna won the contest because he thought she did the blackest magic, I wouldn't have been surprised if she had won on the basis of being the prettiest.
Roger the worm was my favorite character.
