I fully knew what was happening till the end but honestly I don’t care. I don’t think it’s really meant to have an ending that can be read one way.
I truly wish I had a definitive answer to whether Ava was real
what an acid trip tho. I think this book is a flat 4.60 but that’s not an option

This book was truly insane to read. I had a rather different interpretation from others online; and I think how you take the book will depend on your background. You will either hate it or love it. I had a few qualms, but overall, Mona Awad has me wrapped around her little finger with this book. She does an excellent job setting the scene and paying attention to little details.
I am pretty sure the main character is an unreliable narrator, which is why the experience leaves you with a bit of whiplash. It reminds me a lot of Fight Club.
Highly recommend you read it, if only to consume Mona Awad's writing style!

WOW. What an exciting read. I HAVE to discuss with someone because the themes here are so relatable. I’ll be thinking about this for the next few months.

This book sits comfortably in-between sci-fi, dark academia, extended metaphors, and psychological thriller. The unreliable narrator allows the author to make the story intentionally vague. It’s hard to know what’s real and what’s not. If taken literally, this story is a gore-y expression of art going too far, if taken has a metaphor, it’s a journey of an outcast battling loneliness and cliques in an isolated community. I think the author intends for it to be both.

It’s weird as hell, but I loved it. The only book I’ve ever read that actually lives up to being called “a fever dream”.

The last third of the book escalates really quickly and doesn’t explain itself very well, so it adds to the feeling of confusion and suspense, but it also means I didn’t get every plot point.

Should’ve been gayer, though.

Truly wild and I’m still not entirely sure what happened. Definitely something.
