23-year-old Rick Steves takes you along on his journey through the Hippie Trail—an adventure that hasn’t been possible since the late ’70s. As a millennial, I was in awe that he and his friend made this trip from Istanbul to Kathmandu entirely by land—without a cell phone, Google Maps, or the internet to check hotel, restaurant, or transportation reviews. I loved reading about Rick’s experiences and imagining myself in his shoes. It’s inspiring to see such trust in both oneself and the people encountered along the way. This kind of travel is the definition of adventure.
