Darker than I expected, and also I didn't realize the story wasn't self contained. Despite that I enjoyed the gothic atmosphere and revisiting a bleaker future of the world I already enjoyed.

I love Olivia Atwater’s writing and I enjoyed being back in her world of faeries even though this story takes on a darker tone than her others. I appreciate the way she handles potentially triggering and intense topics with grace and emotional maturity. We get to navigate some challenging waters with the characters and come out the other side feeling empowered.
On a lighter note, Winnie’s ghost cat was delightful! Definitely a highlight.
This book ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and I am very much looking forward to the next instalment in this series!

Another beautifully written book, I would highly recommend reading the other series first before reading though. As there are few things that would make more sense if you did. Not as much romance but I love the spookiness and the plot of the whole book.
