i loved the first one, so the sloppy and lazy plot in this was pretty disappointing. literally like the biggest reveal was hinted at for a second in one chapter and then they tell you everything in an info dump in the next chapter. there was a lot i liked about it tho like the not making someone elses story about you theme.

Sadly, I do not care at this point
dark mysterious reflective tense slow-paced

it really doesn’t sit right with me that odette (the only queer character) was the one to die

4 stars

I think my previous review pretty much hit the nail on the head, about it seeming to be filler book. Also the ending of Celine suggesting they run off but not showing it? meh...

2020 review:
4 stars

I am giving this one four stars because I enjoyed it overall, although there were aspects that really bothered me. For starters, this is a 3rd person narrative but during certain chapters of Bastien's perspective, it flips to 1st person. Also, the "climax" of the book didn't happen until there was 20 pages left. This made the book feel very... wandering? and then the resolution felt rushed.

Read through the second book as fast as the first. Love this atmospheric, intoxicating series!

Ooooh this was just.....bad...

The beginning of the book was a slough, full of creature vomit. I thought we were only dealing with vampires and wolves, and now we have fae, kobold, gumiho, and whatever else was at the beginning.

Sebastion was whiny and felt like a stranger compared to book 1.
Celine was impossible to be around and also very annoying and whiny.
Michael and Pippa were pushed to the back and were made bland.

After this book I really don't know how there's supposed to be 2 more books that will keep readers' interest other than the author's name, but I hope some things change.

For most of this book I was pretty much feeling like it would be a 3 star. There wasn’t really much happening compared to the first book, and it very much felt like a filler book. However around three quarters of the way into the book the pace picked up, we got some action and some development of character arcs and the ending managed to hook me enough that it bumped the rating up to a 4 star and I’ll now definitely be continuing the series

I’m just not fully loving these books unfortunately. I’m not hating them by no means but for me they are just ok. The characters are what’s making me keep reading. I’m invested in the characters and all of the relationships, and I need to know how things play out however the overall story is dragging so much and I’m kind of finding myself a little bored with it. I am going to read the other books I just really hope things pick up in the next book. I've been buddy reading this series with Ali and we will be reading the next book in February.
