I picked this book up after a reading hiatus after hearing it was a great read. And it was, for the most part. I enjoyed the descriptive writing, the relationships felt realistic, and the intense mafia vibe was felt throughout. 🔫
The first half gave me the "he's a cheat" ick. But I stuck it out because I loved the dynamic between the sisters, and wanted to see what would happen. Glad to say he wasn't the type. 😌
What was more problematic for me right through the book was the internal "turmoil" Elena felt about her past transgression. I waited and waited for some secret to drop, since the history is divulged early on. Everytime a family member brought it up, everytime she felt her guilt, even when she was told that she could ask for/tell Ace anything...
BUT NOOOOOOOO, THERE WAS NO SECRET. Instead of speaking up and sharing her guilt and demons with the one person that needed the confirmation that her heart didn't belong to anyone else, no, she stabs him in the back, and makes him even angrier.
Quite frankly, that pissed me off. That's not miscommunication, that's just a dumb bitch 🤡 This plot twist didn't plot twist for me.
He's given you everything, girl? Why? WHY?? He was in your corner, holding your hand, and you slapped him in the face, stole his money and ran off?? He'd have done it WITH you! Ridiculous!
It just left me a little gobsmacked 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

I read this book in two days. I might not share the same values as the book’s character such as jealous or toxicity but I have to admit I enjoy reading this books. Perfect if your looking forward start reading dark romance.
