i don’t know what the fuck that was lol.
didn’t care much for the researchers part of the book, i know it was part of the “programming” or whatever for old jim’s story but was a slog. i got into old jim’s story for a second there esp with cass at the end with things ramping up. felt like we were finally getting somewhere and then stupid lowery showed up. maybe the most irritating POV i’ve ever read for a dogshit always high af character (he’s meant to be that way i know, but still). thought things would get interesting again with the second daughter reappearance but… alas somehow lowery (not lowery?) limps away. also how many fucking whitby’s are there?? this guy is everywhere and weird everywhere (also kind of the point i guess)
maybe i just didn’t get this one? i was sad bc i liked the insight the last one gave but this one just gave more questions than answers. so many paragraphs felt nonsensical, not even in an enjoyable psychedelic way just a yeah i guess those words can be next to each other to form a sentence type of way. is it over now? i can’t even tell. i guess ill go read some think pieces on this

Tried the audiobook twice but couldn't focus on it. Reviews said similar things, so DNF'ing for now.

“... that this... thing wanted the past, too, in an automatic, thoughtless way. So that there could be no future but its future, no ability to adapt.”
Wraps up all the themes of the previous books—infections and colonizing and messaging and parasites and sound and hauntings and doubles—in a way Acceptance failed to, along with characters who actually matter. What a fitting twisted labyrinthine conclusion

I just cannot with this writing. It's such a negative evolution of the already corny and questionable writing/world building of the annihilation sequels.
I just found this one a bit boring, like an x-files episode that was too long
kinda loved this: dovetails fully into possible what if-scenarios and parallel universes, without offering any real answers to the original trilogy or compromising the new weird vibes.
