WTF did I just read...This one kind of went off the rails for me. Honestly, I dont know what to think about it and will probably have to read it at least 2 more times before I can truly understand.
I liked Old Jim as a character, but the Tyrant/Rouge storyline didn't do too much for me.
The Lowry section was also a tough read especially at the beginning..iykyk. God bless the poor soul who performed the audiobook.
All that being sad...im glad this book exists..im glad it doesnt spoon feed you answers, and Im glad I read it. I will continue to recommend this series to anyone and everyone.

Area X sucks. Let's always remember that. Despite all the horror, chaos and corruption that is/was Area X, it was real nice to be back. While not my favorite of the series, it was definitely good enough and pretty much proves that the source material is ripe for expansion. Old Jim and Fake Cass were the standouts for me. Thankfully that section was less madness and more character development stuff. Heartbreaking and terrifying all at once. He does step on the gas pedal kind of unexpectedly and it was a lot to take in.
I did not necessarily enjoy Lowry's perspective as the narrator in the final third. Wasn't really hoping to be an observer inside an addict's mind while the world literally changed and dissolved in front of him. While I've loved reading about the Southern Reach and Area X, it's in no way fun to actually be thrust into that chaotic existence as if I was there and suffering with the rest of those doomed folks. Became a bit of a chore to finish, though I do think he ultimately stuck the landing. Area X sucks in case I forgot to mention it.

What a fuckass fuck of a fuck book. First, any virtues? Lazy, but in a cool way. Nonchalant. Derivative as all things are but in a particularly spicy way. First part like an icicle in the brain but the rest like the rest, when melted. Cormie McCorthy wannabeeness wrote largo until it dissolves into a full on fuckfest with all fucks given. Joycean junkyard vibes. Like a plot synopsis of “a” movie version of Annihilation for 100 pages too many, fucks. Except fucks aren’t all that’s given, and that’s a given, right boss? Hog? Boss hog? Like an boss. And the an is staying, typo or not, gator or later. Anyway, kinda boring, but some fun, if you’re into that sorta fuck.

I have no idea what's going on but I am terrified of rabbits with cameras.
