A wonderfully introspective and emotional read up until about the 60% mark. After which, it completely switches gears. To me, this shift was so stark and abrasive that it completely took me out of the story, despite what it does add to the overarching story of the Southern Reach world. I personally think the shift in tone only served as a detriment to the book, and the information should probably have been delivered in a different way.
Still, the 60% was my favorite bit of writing in the entire series, so I don't regret reading it to the end.
