"If my life wasn't funny it would just be true, and that is unacceptable."
I have been meaning to read this book for years, and it did not disappoint. As someone who has experienced psychosis and going to a mental hospital, this book made me feel extremely seen. A quick and funny read, I love Carrie Fisher forever.
This book has some incredible quotes too so here are some other faves of mine:
"let's say something happens and rom a certain slant maybe it's tragic, even a little bit shocking. Then time passes and you go to the funny slant, and now that very same thing can no longer do you any harm."
"There's this funny thing she (Debbie Reynolds) does now, which is to offer my brother and me things that we can have after she's dead."
"Maybe I shouldn't have given the guy who pumped my stomach my phone number, but he'll never call me anyway."
"I was invited to go to a mental hospital. And you know, you don't want to be rude so you go... I mean, hello-have you ever been invited to a mental hospital? So, you see, it's very exclusive. It's sort of like an invitation to the White House-only you meet a better class of people in the mental hospital."
"She's as normal as the day is long."
"But ultimately I feel I'm very sane about how crazy I am."

Well, I get a big kick out of reading little memories like this one - and its cute to hear how Harrison Ford turned her off to pot smoking during the filming of Star Wars because he smoked her out with some crazy intense weed - but otherwise pretty lackluster. Love her writing style, its personal and quick.

"I heard someone say once that many of us only seem able to find heaven by backing away from hell. And while the place that I’ve arrived at in my life may not precisely be everyone’s idea of heavenly, I could swear sometimes—if I’m quiet enough—I can hear the angels sing. Either that or I’ve screwed up my medication."

Someone starts telling you a joke. They might have ADD because they are talking so much and so fast that you can't get a word in edgewise. They go off on a tangent; that tangent leads to another tangent, which leads to another tangent, and soon you can't even remember what the joke is about. Until finally, they come full circle back around to the joke, deliver the punchline--which is actually hilarious--and immediately walk away. You are left utterly speechless, wondering, "What the f*@! just happened?" still never having gotten to say anything.
This is "Wishful Drinking."
