This is an excellent companion to her first book, Anti-Diet. It addresses the ways people can fall into “wellness” that ultimately can lead to misdiagnosis, eating disorders, and snake oil. It gave me sympathy for those that fall into this trap when western medicine has failed them, and I could identify with the appeal of some of these “wellness” solutions. (And have been trapped in my past as well.) A must-read for everyone.

I really enjoyed the walk through of history of wellness culture. The author pulls no punches against an industry steeped in greed, moralizing and healthism. She also is pretty fairly critical of mainstream health care that leaves people vulnerable. My one criticism is that the book sometimes tries to do too much. While interesting, I’m not sure we needed to talk about Russian bots in 2016 to make points.
I really like Christy Harrison. I love her writing style, and her analysis is pretty spot on. But I feel like this book is a little too broad and not enough depth.
An eye-opening book!
I didn't agree with all of her conclusions and have not had time to fact-check a dozen or so of the claims made (that I marked to go back to), but the over all message of the book is worth the read.

Going to start family drama at Christmas about this book! No but for real this book was so incredible and helped me understand so much of what I was presented from a very young age as law is actually bs. This was a very healing experience and I’m currently trying to release the concept that “health” is something that we HAVE to put as the ultimate goal for ourselves. Also fuck RFK Jr fr fr
