Mafia Romance is really not my thing, good story though.

I thought the central relationship had good chemistry and some good scenes together. I liked how the hero, James, was very sweet towards Carrigan and takes care of her, and that he curbed his more possessive instincts in a way that surprised her. I liked Carrigan, I thought she was a decent heroine. I enjoyed that in this book, like the previous one, the heroine saved herself at a pivotal moment instead of relying on a man to swoop in and save her.

The overall plot was all right, it was interesting enough. I liked the glimpses of the character of Dmitri. But it was mostly just okay for me overall. Having read two books by this author in quick succession, I just found something flat about the writing. Nothing about the story really excited me and I found some parts a bit boring, especially as we headed towards the end. It was all just a bit predictable. I was a bit disappointed, really, because I'd enjoyed the relationship between James and Carrigan in the previous book and was excited for the premise of this one. I also found the ending a bit rushed and, again, flat is the best word. I didn't really feel any danger about any of it.

Also, the character of Ricky
Spoiler was incredibly off-putting, as was James' general reluctance to actually deal with anything he does. I know Ricky was his little brother, but he does some really despicable things, and I just didn't get why he was kept around as long as he was.
Similarly,
Spoilerthe human trafficking storyline was iffy to me. I understood the idea that he was trying to help them, but I don't think it was handled particularly well.

I would recommend it if you want a fairly easy to read crime family forbidden romance.

🎧: 5/5 - Charlotte North did an overall great job, I was impressed by her male characters! She did a great job giving life to every character.
🌶️: 2.5 - Plenty of spice but not anything kinky. There's definitely a lot of passion between them as they figure out their emotions and it was great.

I was SO excited for this one and it didn't disappoint! I loved their chemistry in the first book and couldn't wait to start this second one! I had hoped there was going to be a secret marriage but alas, that was not in the cards and that's okay. I just set myself up for that for some reason haha.

The tension between the two, the teasing and taunting of him by being in her favorite spots and the like was giving me so much life. Especially the scene where he kissed behind her ear after some dirty talk AND THEN LEFT??? The audacity! The tension! The need!!!!!

But then she dirty dances all up on him and tells him she wants him and then leaves!!!!!! I screamed.

As expected, the tension between her and her family because of her decision to go with James was going to be a major plot point and I'm actually content with how it played out. I don't have as much drive to read the rest of the series BUT I'm invested to see if Carrigan will be able to win her family back over for her and James!

Definitely my favorite of the two so far.

The Hallorans. The O'Malleys. The Sheridans. Three powerful families, all inextricably entwined. James Halloran, ruling head of the Halloran mafia family, should not be thinking about Carrigan O'Malley. Although their families, along with the Sheridans, now exist in a shaky truce, neither James nor Carrigan has any business wanting the other.

THE WEDDING PACT is the second book in this series by Katee Robert, which I am loving. As usual, Katee writes complex characters in situations that will make or break them. Against all odds, love overcomes division, and enmity gets lost in the reality of people looking beyond the surface, all with a dose of super-hot sexy times thrown in.

Dancing around each other since a chance encounter of the steamiest sort, James and Carrigan are drawn to each other even as their opposing families strive to keep them apart. When an outside threat appears to take control of the Boston crime scene, and things get really crazy, it will be up to the two of them to bring some sanity to their upside-down world.

THE WEDDING PACT is an absorbing and engaging read, and an easy 4.5 stars for me. I highly recommend these new books, and look very forward to AN INDECENT PROPOSAL, Cillian O'Malley's book.
