Cute, guilty-pleasure kind of read. I honestly didn't really buy into this particular hero falling for this particular heroine, but if I didn't overthink it, I enjoyed the hijinks.

I read this book quickly because romance is always a fun and easy read, but I feel like I rolled my eyes every other page. There was a lot of bad writing, so many cliches, and multiple times where I had to reread sections to figure out wtf was happening because the wording was constructed in such a confusing way.

One of my biggest gripes was that everything was just so convenient in order to move the plot along. Like in the beginning the FMC says the bar they’re at is not their go to, but then the rest of the book they’re there like multiple times per week (even before she’s into him). She finds out about Emilio’s restaurant and then she (and her friends, separately) are there multiple times a week. Like does this girl only ever eat chicken Marsala? Girl?! And then towards the end when the two MCs run into each other everywhere they go, they just say “it’s the fairy tale giving you signs.” Ok lol.

Also this book has a really weird relationship with food and weight. Like I know that her poor self image is part of her lore and he helps her with it, but even then it’s kinda yikes.  There’s no middle ground — you can use olive oil and a bit of butter in cooking and not think that will absolutely ruin you, but also eating several donuts and takeout many times in a week is in fact bad for you, and it’s ok to admit that. At one point he tells her ‘you’ll never be thin bc your body isn’t made that way’ and that annoyed me. You can be accepting of your body and pleased with how you look and simultaneously be aware that additional weight results from bad habits. That’s ok! And just the sheer amount of put downs about weight was excessive, it started to get me sad about my own body, like shiiit.

Some final small rant items: it’s fucking weird that she calls him the beast. No one does that. Every character is so unlikable at the onset. They act like a bunch of spoiled finance bros. They get better as time goes on but it took way too long. And why tf do they make out in front of his nephew who he just told to ‘go sit over there I’m busy’ As if that wouldn’t get you on a list or at minimum in hot water with his mom.

Anyways, yes I had some enjoyment reading this book but I would not recommend it as a good book.

Cute, sexy, devoured it in 24 hours. The food stuff was a turn off for me though.

Any book that talks about Elvis Costello is damn cool with me!

So cute! And chaste without being boring. Absolutely delightful characters and plot and GREAT dialogue

It’s always easy to finish a Crusie. Another wonderful story with a lead female that related to very well, and a lead male who was kinda too perfect that he edged on predictable. However, it is the most fairytale of hers that I’ve read and that was the theme, so I’m ok with that. Less spicy than others. Still love it, but I think others may have left more of a mark.

Somebody recommended Jennifer Crusie to me on tumblr when I asked for recommendations on any good romance novels where the dude is not a douche and the characters aren't uber rich. Bet Me pretty much fit the bill (although the dude's family is pretty well-off).

This book is straight up fun and funny romance. Cal and Min are very likable although a few of the side-characters (especially the mothers and the two villains) are two-dimensionally annoying and self-absorbed, but somehow, I'm not too annoyed.

Overall, an enjoyable read.
