Content warning: abuse, implied rape, death, weird ghost stuff, animal abuse, ableism

A boy can feel a presence in his house, and then he sees the spirit of his father. Weird things start to happen that shouldn't be happening. This is a Native American horror story and it truly freaked me out so it's best not to know too much about it.

I don't really know how to go about writing this review. I am not one for horror, because often I think it's just a silly plot or it's just not scary, but this was.

My jaw dropped, what an odd fascinatiing story. I think Stephen graham jones is shaping up to be one of my favorite authors.

This novella was abstract, dense, beautiful and captures fatherhood in a way that is nuanced yet devastating.

That ending, I don’t know what to say…. It hurt quite a bit, but I guess junior was always going to be his father’s son..

What a heart-wrenching story. Jones excels at creating an ambiance that captures the murky feeling of dreaming and sleepwalking. The grief almost felt tangible, like I could reach through the screen and touch it.

The story is more metaphorical and vague, but I preferred it that way. Jones manages to create a very unique, poignant voice for our protagonist.

I had to read this for school and UGH it’s so good. PERFECT blend of psychology and English in my opinion. Something I never would’ve even thought to pick up but WOW just so spooky and raw and real and SAD and so so so good
