Best book I've read all year. I fell in love with Homer as many others have. I laughed and cried my way through this. A must have for all libraries!
Another true story about one little kitten who beat the odds. With an infection that was life threatening, a surgery removing his eyes was the only option. They were sutured shut, and no one wanted to adopt him, so the author took him in with her two other cats. He saved her life from a burglar and was in NYC when 9/11 happened; Homer taught the author to take chances.
I laughed, I cried, I didn't want it to be over. This book was awesome. I was in tears several times throughout the book, and it was just an amazing story. I think I need to go read her other one now, but I don't know who or what could be more inspiring and brave than little Homer.
Cute but slower pace/story. Need something faster right now.
This book was great, although I'm a sucker for animal books. A woman shares her story of being a recently young, single woman who adopts a third kitten when she doesn't have a place to live or much money. But, Homer, who is blind, teaches her about life and how to live it. I appreciated how honest she was about being the cat lady (three), living with her parents to save money, switching careers, moving away from home, connecting with people. I know it's good when I can't put it down.
A wonderful story about an exceptional cat who thrives despite his blindness. The writing is erractic...sometimes flows well and other times jumps around. Gwen's description of being in New York near the towers on 9-11 was especially interesting. A great story that would have been even better with more editing. I love that his story has touched so many people, inspiring others to adopt special needs animals. Check out www.thewondercat.wordpress.com, www.gwencooper.com and www.blindcatrescue.com.
Such a touching and inspiring read. Cat lovers will be over the moon for Homer.
What lucky readers we are, that a cat as brilliant and amazing as Homer wound up living with a creative writing major. Such a fantastic read.
I really enjoyed this book. I have recently fostered a kitten who had to have one eye removed, so it was inspiring to hear of a completely blind cat who didn't let it stop him. I also understood the true fear and horror of 9/11 more than ever. Excellent writing and a wonderfully touching story.
