I’m so very disappointed in this book. The premise is so creative and I even didn’t mind Charlie as the main character. But this feels like a prequel to a story that has never been written. It was only around 300 pages but it felt longer than the Way of Kings. It was slowwwww. Part of this is because nothing exciting happens until the last fifty pages. I had to force myself to finish it. (I totally called every single twist hahaha)
Also, Vince and Charlie’s relationship felt very convenient. I didn’t really get why they loved each other because they don’t do anything that seems to constitute love. But Vince apparently loves her big and is willing to do whatever for her

I couldn't get into the story at all. My first Holly Black book. To bad!

Ohhhh I wanted to like this, I really did, but what an awful story. I got to page 174 and could not tell you wtf a Gloamist was, what the hell the magic system was supposed to be or what was really going on. The main character was okay but the plot was absolute sh!te, it felt like a teenager had tried to write a modern fantasy and failed miserably.
I couldn’t waste another second on this book and decided to DNF it.

I would’ve given it 3 but I’m trying to be more judgey now again. So most of the books I’ve given 3 these past couple years, round them down to 2

Wow! Looking forward to book 2. I found myself very intrigued by the magic of this world. Dark, yet alluring. Unique to any magic I’ve read thus far. The FMC I found very relatable and I adored her. I also enjoyed the writing a lot. Some twists and turns. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
