Thought this was a graphic novel adaptation of the Poppy Z Brite book at first lol but it's absolutely not. Just a quick read about a girl meeting an author and changing her whole life. Very satisfying ending haha

There's a lot of sexual harrassment in this book and the art style is pretty simple, but I got very invested in the story and I like the way it ends. I really enjoy that the main character starts off as a non-reader but is shown reading prolifically by the end of the book.

This book took a lot of turns that I was not expecting, especially given its vague "literacy scandal" in the description, which takes place well into the book.

No one in the book was very likable, which isn't a necessity, but they all seemed to be fleshed out "quirkily," and then the reader is just kind of expected to be along for the ride with all of the twists and turns. I understood the ending when
the protagonist and the agent get back at the author
, and even kind of enjoyed its vaguely lesbian feminist tones, but it didn't have a lot of substance to it. Nothing in the book really did.

Much of the book was characterized by its adult "edginess" (showing nudity, swearing, etc.), but it wasn't really reflected in its themes. The twist comes late in the book, and isn't very engaging, as far as having the reader think "what comes next?" The characters were all immature in their thoughts and actions, and the artwork couldn't make up for the lack of plot. It wasn't horrible, just very far from good.

the last 3 pages...exactly what I wanted *chef’s kiss*

Cute drawings, cute protagonist, not very interesting story.

Started paging through this, got sucked in, and read it cover to cover.
