Honestly I am just so upset and disappointed.
I was so excited for this book. Noah Shaw has been one of my favorite fictional characters of all time and I loooove Mara. But. In this book, everything changed.
Characters I used to love and enjoy so much to be with were... off. None of the characters felt true to themselves, to the character development we saw throughout the Mara Dyer trilogy. Mara didn't feel like Mara, and Noah definitely didn't feel like Noah.
My biggest issue with this book was that absolutely nothing happened. It was just very boring and generic??? In some way??? The beginning was slow and extremely boring, and was mostly just Noah and Mara wanting to have sex with each other. I just didn't care about any of it.
I remember LOVING the Mara Dyer trilogy and the story and characters and everything that Michelle Hodkin created; so where did all of that go? Why does this feel like a whole set of new, bland and two dimensional characters with absolutely no plot and just.... what happened?
I had such high hopes for this book and maybe that's why I'm so disappointed. I did enjoy some parts, but the boring and monotonous scenes were much more overwhelming. I do, however, see myself reading the rest of the series because my foolish heart is still holding on to hope that the series will get better. That Michelle Hodkin just needs to get back on her feet and needed to create some sort of conflict where there was none. And now hopefully she's gonna clean up her mess.
I will say that the ending was the best part of the whole book; probably the only good part if I'm being brutally honest. This first book was just unfortunately a bad start to what will hopefully be a good series.

3✨ date mai mult datorită atașamentului meu față de seria originală...................
4.5 Stars!! I’m desperate to know more- per usual with a Mara book I am still so very in the dark. But i have lots of margin notes and theories thought up. I
It took some getting used to being in Noah’s head and not Mara’s- the hardest part being watching Mara’s antics without being in her head to justify it. I saw all my favorite characters in a new light- as Noah see them compared to Mara and it makes me want to read the originals all over again.
P.s. i need more MADNESS 🖤🖤🖤

I'M SO CONFUSED????? i really regret not rereading the Mara Dyer books before starting this because there were so many references i didn't get. *sigh* even though this is supposed to be a companion series, i definitely wouldn't recommend if you didn't read the original series.
it wasn't that i didn't like this book, but i couldn't understand it. i love the Mara Dyer series for its mystery and intrigue but this was to the point where i was like, "what is going on??" as in: i genuinely didn't understand the plot because i couldn't see one. if you asked me to summarize this novel i wouldn't be able to. most of it was noah and mara having sex, then noah getting suspicious about mara and everything. it all seemed kinda murky – in an unpleasant way.
i just, i didn't know what was going on – in the entire book. :// and characters i originally loved in the Mara Dyer series felt out of touch. maybe it was because we're seeing things from noah's perspective (whom I LOVE, but not as much in this book UGH). there were people i originally remember being so!! wonderful!! and now they're just... duller. could be because i needed a memory refresher or because it was the "first book" of a new series. either way, i'm a little disappointed but still hopeful. i'll probably continue the series, but try not to get my hopes too high for the next novel.

I can’t even rate this book. I don’t even know what to think. I don’t know what I hated more. The plot, Noah’s point of view, or the way Mara was painted. I don’t have any words, I have no idea what to say. There were many parts of this book where I put it down and didn’t want to pick it back up. But Michelle’s writing has some kind of effect on me. I had to pick it back up and finish it. If i’m honest it all should’ve ended with the Mara Dyer trilogy. But nope, it’s been picked up and it’s a giant shit show. Somebody said that this read like a fanfiction and that’s all I could think about most of this book. I just don’t know what to say.
Stella disappeared and the “gang” did fuck-all. Mara was painted as a villain and that pained me. And the ending... good god I don’t even know what to say. Don’t know what to type. I guess I’ll just wait for what’s next. I’ll figure that out next week.

4.5 stars! This book was so dark and twisty yet so good! I'm constantly wondering who is telling the truth and who isn't.
This review is going to kinda be all over the place. Mind you there will be spoilers so once this book is out, pick it up and read it! It's a short and easy read! I finished it in a day to be quite honest.
We open up at David Shaw's funeral. Let me just say, I feel so bad for Katie. She's now an orphan and Noah isn't even acting like a brother towards her. I really hope in future books we see more of Katie and read about what she's going through. I have a feeling she's going to be hella mad at Noah for basically ditching her.
The SPICEY scenes were amazing and I felt like they weren't crowding the main plot. Some sexy scenes with mystery is 👌🏻 A+
The main plot. I was kinda going in blind since I hadn't read the Mara Dyer trilogy in a very long time. So I went in kinda confused and a little like "what's the point of this book?" I felt like nothing really happened in the book yet so much happened. But definitely worth the read!
I talked to my friend, who also read this book, about Mara #2 as we're calling her. She seems really suspicious in my opinion. She's Mara's grandmother as we learned in the trilogy and I believe it also talked about her having the same abilities as Mara... so what we were wondering is maybe Mara #2 is the one killing the "gifted?" It seems plausible. But we also talked about what if she's the tracker that Leo was talking about. Mara #2 had to be alive for some long time so what if she developed both? She's the tracker and the killer? So many questions and no answers. It just makes me excited to get my hands on the next book!

Well, that was insane! I can’t believe I waited so long to finally pick up this installment. I am so ready to see where the story goes next in November, especially after that ending!
I consumed all four of these books (The three Mara Dyer and this one) in 5 days...5 days. What. The. Heck. The string of emotions from book 1 to 4 is like a tidal wave; it is crazy. I think Noah is the constant that kept me reading. There are several inconsistencies throughout but I didn’t even care, which says these are a guilty pleasure for sure...but again, I didn’t even care. So, I will sit here waiting for the next one. I’ll be right, here.
