Long story short: what a disappointment.
When I first found out about this saga coming out I was beyond excited: I loved the Mara Dyer saga and really liked Noah, so it was a given for me that I was going to enjoy this one just as much.
And then I finally started reading it. At first, when I felt that I wasn't finding it interesting I kept pushing myself because this happens with a lot of books: you need to get through the beginning and then things start getting interesting. Sadly, this wasn't the case. I reached the page 100 and felt like nothing had happened. I thought "maybe at 150", so I pushed myself. Then I got to page 200 and still felt the same. I also felt that if, in my opinion, nothing had happened by then, nothing was going to happen at all. It was a matter of just getting to the end and maybe being surprised, quitting (which I despise and rarely do) or just finishing the book for the sake of it. It ended up being option #3, which makes me very sad.
I'll admit that I felt like things happened from around page 300 till the end of the book, but for me they didn't feel enough to continue with this saga. I don't feel curious enough to find out why that person was there at the end of the book or why that thing keeps happening to them.
I would go into the plot to actually explain well why I thought nothing much happened (which might be true and the rest of the saga might be action-packed) but I would have to go through the book again and I really want to move on to a different one.
So this is me parting ways with this saga - for now. I might give the next book a chance in the future, once I'm not so annoyed at the world for making me not enjoy this book and, hopefully, if or when I do read the next, I'll fall right in love with it.

very fast paced and entertaining!
Really weird that every character is trying so hard to be adults.. I mean yeah they are 17 and 18 but it’s obvious the author is trying hard to make this spin off series a LOT more adult themed.

I wanted to like this so much more than I actually did. The story reminded me of the first hill on a rollercoaster. The first 90% was an agonizingly slow crawl upward, devoid of much plot, and then the last 10% was a fantastic, fast paced thrill. If only the entire story had lived up to the last 10%.

this is maybe a 2.5, i’m not sure. i just wasn’t a big fan of noah as a narrator at all, and maybe it’s just me, but i felt like this book had none of the intrigue of the mara dyer trilogy. there were some good reveals, but the plot was lacking and it felt like nothing happened. i felt like everything that occurred in this book could have happened within 100 pages as exposition. noah was also just a really irritating narrator at times and i hated all of his interactions with mara. every time he called her “my girl” i wanted to scream!!! every scene with her, especially that ones that are trying to be sexy and dark, made me so uncomfortable and just weren’t written that well, in my opinion.

jamie has always been a redeeming quality of the series though, and i was glad to see him again, especially considering i liked noah so much less as a narrator than as just a character. it was good to have one character that i felt stayed consistent and was still likable.

maybe i missed something, but i was also annoyed that everyone around them seemed to have abilities. maybe this was explained with the whole A.L. storyline, but i honestly wasn’t paying too much attention throughout this book bc i was disinterested. it just became less of a shock when each person was revealed to have a gift because literally everyone they’ve ever been friends with does. it just seemed too convenient.

i felt that the mara dyer trilogy ended in a great place (which also was not referenced at all in this book?? where are mara’s books/memoirs? is this series noah writing memoirs?), so this series was kinda unnecessary. a spin-off series could have been cool if it went in a different direction and maybe focused on different characters, but this book just felt very unneeded. i’m not giving this book lower than 2/2.5 because i do think part of me not loving this book is because i just wasn’t that interested, and i think someone else might be. i don’t think i will be continuing with the series, though, unfortunately.

Not quite the epic romance and fantasy adventure I was expecting based on what Michelle gave us in the Mara Dyer trilogy. However, the cliffhanger leaves me craving for more.

i’m just super confused after reading this! i’m confused on what all mara did and the lies she told / what she’s hiding and where she went after leaving noah and the fact that her fucking GRANDMA IS ALIVE. someone give me some insight 😩

This book 😘😘 I love the fact that you get to see a total different side of Noah, I enjoyed the book a lot and the cute moments had me blushing 😽 overall some characters did annoy me and it was a soft and a little slow start but I enjoyed it!! I didn't want to put the book down. Michelle has created characters you will never forget! So I highly recommend for any Mara Dyer fans to pick this book up!😭😘

The Becoming of Noah Shaw

I was really happy when I heard we were getting a sequel series to the Mara Dyer trilogy and, man, having read it I’m still so glad. Just as twisty and turny as the first trilogy. I’m excited to see where it goes next.

Putting this at 3 stars right now because I am reserving judgment. I read the original series years ago, and have either forgotten a lot, or this one really launched in the middle of a lot of new/loose threads. So, I'm going back and re-reading the original series to see if it sheds light on some of my confusion after reading this one, then I'll re-rate. That ending though! I can't wait to read the second book after I re-read the first trilogy.
