What I took away from "TFIOS" is that we are all people and despite our afflictions we just want to be treated normal.
I'm noticing that John Green's books have a very simple but powerful message behind them and I love that. It enforces the idea that you probably already learned the hard way, or were aware of but weren't ready to believe.

"My favorite book is probably 'An Imperial Affliction'," I said. "Does it feature zombies?" he asked. "No," I said. "Stormtroopers?" I shook my head. "It's not that kind of book." He smiled. "I am going to read this terrible book with the boring title that does not contain stormtroopers," he promised [...] "Hi," I said. "How are you?" "Grand," he said. "I have been waiting until I could form a coherent thought in re 'An Imperial Affliction'." (He said "in re." He really did. That boy.)

I was hesitant to read a YA book, but found this one very thought provoking with a perfect amount of emotion and realism. Yes, most teenagers don't think or speak like these characters, but knowing of some who did when I was that age pulled me into the world of this book that much quicker. And the level of sarcasm used was brilliant. I found myself hysterically laughing one minute and reflective the next. I believe this is the first book I've ever felt has truly earned its 5 stars.
Really well written and humorous considering the subject matter... but the ending left me a little blank... not sure how to have improved it but I wanted more just not in a good way.

I knew I would cry! Also, I don't know why I ever put off reading anything by John Green because even knowing that I'll think the teenagers are pretentious and intellectually snobbish I also know that I'm still going to absolutely love it because I'm that way! (Y'all, I said it, I'm an intellectual snob! Ha!) Regardless, his teenagers are written the way they always are and I still loved it! And I cried. In a bar... Because I finished reading this while drinking in a bar at a birthday party crawfish boil for me and a couple others... That's how I roll. :-D
