Don't Tempt Me

Lori Foster

3.6 AVERAGE

One of those mildly unrealistic but pleasant wish-fulfillment romances. Our heroine, with a dying grandfather and a bunch of awful relatives, buys a fixer-upper house and discovers that the entire neighborhood is populated with hot, helpful single guys, including the hottest of them all, her next-door neighbor, who has fallen in love with her basically at first sight. Nothing is very surprising or particularly stressful. I wish there had been more home remodeling included, honestly.

This was kind of like Lori Foster lite. The mystery element that is usually in her books was more of an after thought but the romance was just as good as usual. Honor drove me a little bit crazy, I can't really imagine people out there that never accept help from anyone but I do know plenty of people that doubt other's motives, even loved ones. It drives me crazy IRL too. As always there was a nice little bow on the end of the book. Marriage for everyone!!!

Foster will continue to be an auto-buy for me.

A whole new slew of brothers to watch as they find their HEA.

4.5 Stars
Whenever I need a sweet, sexy story I can always count on a Lori Foster book to hit the spot. Don't Tempt Me was exactly the book I needed to take my mind off of life.
I loved the slow-building but chemistry filled connection between Jason and Honor. Shirtless Jason with his hands that built things of beauty and Honor with her secrets and her proceed with caution shell were a perfect match for each other. I love that Jason didn't play games or beat around he bush when it came to his feelings for Honor but that he was patient with her and respected her need for independence. He's just about as perfect as a BBF can be.
I was also a fan of the secondary romance brewing between Lexie and another one of the neighborhood hotties. I can see how some readers might see it as distracting from the main romance between Honor and Jason but I think it added another dimension to the story that made it just that much more interesting.
If you like low-angst, sexy stories with guys who are good with their hands, you'll love this one!

I absolutely loved the chemistry between Honor and Jason. They make true love and fate seem real. Lori's writing is awesome and gets quite steamy. I received this as an ARC for my unbiased opinion.

Sometimes, you grow up with a great family surrounding you, other times, you just have to make your own family - surround yourself by people you love and who love you back. The latter was the case for Honor in Don't Tempt Me. Because she moved to stay closer to her dying grand-dad, Honor really didn't have much tame for herself. Between her job, going to the nursery home in the middle of the night and trying to do some work on her house, she was a very busy lady. She still managed to get closer to her neighbors little by little, though, in big part thanks to her best friend, Lexie.

The writing, as always with a Foster book, was spot-on! I really got to know Honor and Jason well, and there were quite a few chapters about Lexie and her romance as well. Some of Honor's inner dialogues really got to me, though, because she was so very insecure when it came to other people. In some ways, it's completely understandable, her mom disappeared, and then her dad just kind of left her with her grand-dad - so she was used to people leaving. When she moved in, though, Jason offered to help her carry some stuff into her house, and she was all about not wanting to impose! When people offer help, it's usually because they truly want to help, and the not wanting to impose part got old fast.

The slow pace and the way the romance unfolded really made my toes curl in pleasure, though, and the character development was nothing short of amazing! Written in third person point of view, past tense, Don't Tempt Me is a strong romance that is perfect for reading during a lazy summer day!

She tried to concentrate on Colt's father, but couldn't. She glanced at his brother again, and her gaze got caught in his. Something, challenge or maybe interest, kicked up the corner of his mouth in a nearly indiscernible way. But she saw it. Shoot, she felt it.

Somehow, on her, the mismatched outfit looked pretty damn hot. in fact, no matter what she war, the sight of her never failed to fire his blood.

If sex had ever before been that amazing, she probably wouldn't have given it up so easily.

The primary romance between Jason Guthrie and his shy new neighbor, Honor Brown, is sweet and sexy. Unfortunately, the secondary romance focusing on Honor's outspoken friend, Lexie Perkins, and another neighbor, Sullivan Dean, falls rather flat mainly due to Sullivan's judgemental attitude.

While Honor initially comes across as a naive and innocent Mary Sue, it is clear that she has a solid backbone and is quite capable of standing up for herself when the need arises. Jason has a tendency toward alpha-hole-ness but manages to refrain from crossing the line perhaps because his domineering tendencies are mitigated by his obvious need to care for those around him whether it be his despondent brother, his heartbroken nephew, or his reticent new neighbor.

Lexie and Sullivan's relationship is lacking the charm of Honor and Jason's. Lexie is strong, confident, and loyal to a fault. She has a tremendous capacity for love, and as such, Sullivan's faulty perceptions of her as vapid and frivolous are exceedingly annoying. To be honest, he is not worthy of her and his sudden acceptance of her is unconvincing.

The next book focuses on the other two men in the neighborhood, Jason's brother Hogan Guthrie, and the local sheriff, Nathan Hawley. I look forward to reading their stories.

Small town romance , 2 great heroines and delightful heroes.

Honor Brown and Lexie Perkins are the kind of characters I enjoy in romance. Female friendship portrayed in a positive way is my catnip..

I enjoyed the small town setting of the book, the double romance, the depth of the characters and the love story.

A delight to romance lovers.

I usually love Lori Foster's books and this one was good but it didn't seem as good as some of her other books. This is the first book in the Guthrie Brothers series but there are only two brothers with son Colt. I kept tripping over the son's name. Yes, Colt, like the horse. Do people name their kids after horses? Oh, wait, there's Mare Winningham. Never mind. Anyway, maybe the series should be named after the neighborhood. I'm not sure it's mentioned but everyone seems to live on the street. It's comfy but not many people nearby. Jason, the main male character; Hogan, Jason's brother; Colt, Hogan's son, all live in Jason's house. Dean Sullivan lives across the street and he is the second character whose story is being told in this book. Nathan is the sheriff/guitar player/band mate and he lives on the other side of Honor. Honor is the main female character and she just bought the run down house next door to Jason. Lexie is Honor's best friend. Violet is not a neighbor but she is probably the love interest for Hogan in another book. Also, there is Diesel, the best dog. I wouldn't mind getting some kisses from him.

Ok, so here are some notes I wrote while reading this book:

I put this in the list for same word over and over for the word obtuse. I read that a number of times. The author didn't use the word as many times as some authors do. They must have a word a day calendar and will use that one word over and over. (Just a pet peeve of mine)

page 68 - ugh, the big, sexy alpha who only wears shorts, knows what's best for poor little Honor. He is so concerned about her being tired. They just met! She needs to tell him to buzz off.

page 69 - Thank you! "He could grill her, but she was supposed to mind her own business."

page 114 - Jason stopped kissing her because he didn't want to take advantage. That's how the hero is supposed to act.

page 125 - the author spells Violet's name Violent.

page 130 - (this is a big one.) Honor hasn't had a date in 2 years! OMG! His mind went blank. Before he could assimilate such a thing....she added haven't been kissed or held hands. No fucking way!!! It actually says in the book "No fucking way". His head swam with a tidal storm of emotions. Wow 2 whole years. Soooo unbelievable.

page 144 - his spread fingers spanned her waist hip to hip. Wow! I hope he is as big as King Kong, otherwise, she is as small as Barbie. The actual Barbie doll. Now, I know that some men have big hands but to span a woman's waist doesn't sound right.

page 182 - ok so someone else has to tell us that Honor is pretty. Pretty is just pretty. It doesn't make someone nice or good. Or that we have to "rah rah" for them. Hey, that person is pretty, we must root for them. They are the good people. They is pretty!

page 190 - "a little after midnight, her grandfather left her." Oh God! Crying the ugly tears. This is, I think, the part of the book that is so well written. So emotional and you see the best of everyone.

page 214 - "she squirreled against him". (?) Is that a new dance? The squirrel? I don't think it's a dance unless people dance while having sex in bed. hmmm

page 231 - ok I get it, Sullivan has incendiary eyes. There's another word over and over.

pages 239-247 - I don't think I like how this scene went. Sullivan insulted Lexi and I would have pushed him away and told him to fuck off. This is one of the problems with two story lines in one book. Some things do not get the best treatment this way. Too much time written on non-important things and not enough time where it needs to be. I thought this book was too long but in fact there wasn't enough written for Lexi and Sullivan. Some authors do this very well, Susanne Brockmann and her Troubleshooters series.

page 280 - oh god again. "She's so pretty."

page 316 - again again with the "she's so pretty". This is about Colt's girlfriend. Heaven forbid if a girl is not so pretty.

page 324 - How can a dog look worried for someone? I know dogs can pick up bad vibes from people but can they look worried?

I liked Jason, for all I knew of him, Honor was just this girl who worried about everything and didn't want help because that meant people thought she couldn't do for herself. Not enough about Lexi and Sullivan. I may read the next book in the series "Worth the Wait". It's Hogan's story and Nathan's story is the other in the book.

Oh, I meant to mention that I won this book as an ebook from goodreads.com. I read the ebook and the paperback back and forth. Thank you goodreads.com.

There are times when I am just looking for a feel good story and DON'T TEMPT ME fills the requirement perfectly. It's set in a small town that is trying to improve its image with all kinds of friendly townsfolk and very hot men.

Honor had NO idea just what she was getting into when she moved to Clearbrook. She has learned to depend on herself only but next door, there are three guys that are determined to help her out and keep an eye on her. And it doesn't help her piece of ,mind that they are all incredibly hot.

Now her best friend Lexie, self proclaimed party girl, knows just what to do with all these hot men which includes having fun with one of them and setting Honor up with another. After all, there has to be some perks for Honor moving to a small town.

I really enjoyed DON'T TEMPT ME. It actually has two stories interwoven; Honor and Jason's tale, and Lexie and Sullivan's. Even though there are actually four main characters, Ms. Foster has done a fantastic job of character development for each. Honor especially grows and really opens up in this book. Lexie doesn't really change but someone finally recognizes her for the gold that she really is.

I do recommend DON'T TEMPT ME to any of my readers who enjoy contemporary love stories. It has an enjoyable story line, great characters and a bit of conflict with Honor's not so nice relatives. There is some sex in this story but nothing extremely graphic.
