Oh my god, I really enjoyed this. I need more people to start reading this book series, so we can collectively freak out over piper and ronan.

Satisfying second installment in the series overall. Pace was quick, the mystery wasn't dragged out but the story didn't feel rushed. I enjoyed getting more of Natalie's background in this book.
Graphic: Violence
Moderate: Bullying, Death of parent
Minor: Child abuse, Sexual assault
Hmm, what to say about this one... except that I liked it a lot :D
Worldbuilding:
We moved around a lot in this instalment, and while that was often by mundane means, we got to teleport, or well, shadow walk (now I'm scratching my head to remember if there was a term for it, if I missed it, let me know!). So we needed good descriptions about what was happening and what Piper or the person in question was seeing to actually make any sense of it. Luckily for us, the author did a great job with this. Scenes and environments were clear and well detailed, letting you just relax and enjoy the story.
Character development:
What I really love about the author is the way she makes her characters be the good guys, but still with the potential to do terrible things. For example (without giving anything away), Piper would do anything to get her sister back... so if that was by killing a lot of people or supes, I don't think she would think twice.
This instalment went to a far deeper emotional level than I thought it would go. We still ended up with many questions, but the feels... It had me clutching my kindle so hard I broke a nail (yes, woe is me). The kindle is fine, in case you were worried ;-)
Piper went deep, facing a lot of hard truths, some of which she really didn't want to look at.
Ronan is still as mysterious at the end of book 2 as he was at the start (seriously Kel, give more info about Ronan!:D), though he is slowly but steadily opening up more and more, giving Piper a lot more than she bargained for, but she needed it, and she needed him (even if she's still in denial).
Pacing and flow:
It was a smooth read from start to finish. It kept teasing me to keep on reading 'Don't you want to know what Piper does now?', 'What will Ronan say?', ... Let's say it held my attention throughout without much effort :)
Good balance between a lot of action and conversation to move the story forward.
The book:
The book itself was well written with no (noticeable) errors and yes, there is sex described in the book (if that is important to you).
The book is 356 pages spread over 30 chapters.
All in all:
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and I can honestly say it was another great book in a very enjoyable series. I just love it when the characters arent all goody-two-shoes. Some darkness? Why, yes please! :)

I had the opportunity to get the ARC. This book was phenomenal. I love how Piper grows in it and hope her and Ronan can hash out their problems. I can’t wait to read the next book and see where the cliffhanger goes!!

Not because the story was bad, it was a great storyline. I just thought that the FMC was going to be with her atman and it appears that one of them will become someone else's. I have a weird thing with supporting characters becoming main characters. (Also in a rh kick, so this was a bit disappointing)

So I don’t like slow burn because I don’t trust authors to sustain a strong story while we’re waiting for the romance to come online. I dig the female friendship element, but it’s harder to look past nuisances when the payoff isn’t certified.
