Theres so much world building and so little character development
I loved it, a lot more than the first one. I’m glad I gave the series a chance. I love all of these characters and this world now that so much more of it is fleshed out. Ronan is still growing on me, but I really came to love Piper.
Touch by Fire is book one, this one starts where it left, getting more information and twists and turns than you ever expected. Piper is a character that has grown so much since the story started, and Ronan is one book boyfriend you want to meet. This one is more action-packed, we get some answers but definitely, the suspense is still on, a great urban fantasy with magic and demons. I am so looking forward to the next one. The audiobook is narrated by Savannah Gilmore and Adam Gold, definitely did a terrific job, I am enjoying them so much, the editing is done as expected, definitely get the audio, so worth it.

This book was fast-paced and by the end I was almost dizzy. There were a few slower moments in the previous book, and this one felt the complete opposite. Poor Piper can't catch a break but she is starting to overcome her prejudices and starting to accept herself and her new world. I like her attitude a lot better in this one. I love seeing the friendship continue to develop between Piper and Natalie. Piper and Ronan also got some good screen-time together. Their chemistry jumps off the page and I am excited to see how the relationship progresses. I was disappointed that there was a whole lot that happened while Piper was unconscious and we didn't get to see more of Natalie and Lucifer interacting.
Overall, a fantastic addition to the series and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

The series gets better the lore is still a bit milk toast. I saw the use of a Sanskrit word with atma it's interesting and I thought maybe the author might write something a bit "more"........ with that being such a major part of the story she didn't. The book is what you think it is. The word use is just window dressing.
It's not boring but it feels like she's paranormal writing trying to write urban fantasy but doesn't have the action to carry it. I have a feeling when more sex gets in the story will have its "action moments" in sex which will make the story carry better. I wish though we got some decent action scenes a bit more.

Just like Touched by Fire, I binged this book in one sitting. I love Kel and the characters/stories she creates, and her Demons of New Chicago series is definitely becoming one of my favorites!
Haunted by Shadows picks back up where we in TBF with Piper still trying to find a way to bring Bree back, all while trying to avoid her connection to Ronan. Her character growth is finally coming along in this book and thanks to Nathalie, she is finally starting to see that maybe not all magical creatures are awful. Although Piper does have a knack for finding the super crappy ones and almost getting herself killed because she tends to be a bit reckless, but that’s just part of her charm.
I am dying to get my hands on Blood be Damned to see how this series ends and what’s in store for Piper, especially after how Kel ended with one hell of a cliffhanger.
