This book was not what I was expecting in a positive way. The sci-fi-esk nature was really interesting and made the story overall more intriguing. The start of the book was a little hard to follow and the amount of characters sometimes led to confusion. Not my favorite audiobook narration.

A higher level of concision would have gone a long way in this book. I did however, find the premise interesting and the setting unique and compelling

Stuart Turton knows how to write suspense. Even if the twists in the book felt a bit lame, or half-hearted, the sheer adrenaline rush of trying to get ahead of the story was fun.

Weirdly adorable murder mystery in a apocolypse.
Quite enjoyable if you embrace the goofiness.

sincerely torn in this because the experience was fun and the resolution infuriating (at least philosophically speaking). fun ride but would never read it again

A classic murder mystery mixed with a bit of AI and in a dystopian setting. This felt fast-paced, and the world building was decent but not too in depth. Not all questions about the world have answers, understandably. I wasn’t emotionally pulled into any of the characters, but that is perhaps because there are so many of them (enough to keep the mystery of it all going). There’s a big reveal about halfway through that felt only somewhat surprising, and the resolution at the end was mildly grim but overall uplifting.

2.5 rounded up to 3. Way too many characters with weird names, it was really hard to keep track. I also found myself not even caring about who killed Niema, I would have been way more interested in the world building. Also, the audiobook narrator was insufferable, he sounded like he was reading the news. Also considering most of the PoVs in the book are female, why get a male to do the audiobook?
