I have one complaint.....and that is I have to wait to read the next book. I have soooooo any questions. And now I have to wait almost a year to answer them. Good job Ms Chima, well done. It isn't very often that I am fooled and I cannot figure out little mysteries. Every time I thought I figure out who Crow was I was thwarted, although I think I know who it is now. Hmm we shall see.

Will I buy the next book? Heck yes!! Will I pre-order possibly. I am great fan of Ms. Chima. Now for the big question will I recommend it to others? Oh indeed, I have already passed it on to my teenage son. You see Ms. Chima's books are good for not only the YA audience but, old ladies like me. Oh and my husband will read it after my son.

The characters are so well developed and true to themselves throughout the series. Never once do I question why they made the decision they did. I find myself wishing there were more in the series (have not read the last one yet) as the author did such a great job creating a tiny mystery in each novel that expands into a larger world mystery. I love the hints of youthful crushes, but it isn't the main plot by any means. I wouldn't mind more romance, but there really isn't time for that in the suspense that the Author created to get things accomplished in their world.

Speaking of timing, the pace of the book is great, the tasks the characters complete almost remind me of Dungeon and Dragons storytelling and it really feels like you could be the character. You know sometimes books have the characters complete too much for the amount of time that has passed, or the opposite and you find yourself wondering what they did with all their extra time? This was not the case; I felt present for the whole of the story and can't wait to recommend this to others.

This sequel is perfect for setting up the rest of the story. I love when we get to see our FMC out of her normal environment. The growth we witness is heartbreakingly won. The journey witnessed by the reader is fraught with danger. The lead into the next book is perfect.

It's crazy to think that when I read the first book in this series I was a teenager barely out of high school and now I somehow am an adult lawyer with responsibilities. Whoever thought that would be a good idea?

All jokes aside, going into this book I really tried to keep myself from holding onto the nostalgia so that it wouldn't cloud my judgment for the story as a whole. I am happy to say that nostalgia played an almost invisible role in the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

I'd forgotten what a great world crafter Chima was and I am so glad to return to her writing after so long.

This story still holds its place as very unique despite the many fantasy novels I have read in the last eleven years. Though the characters themselves are young, making this a coming-of-age tale of sorts, there was no moment in this book that had me irritated with them for typical "teenage" behaviors.

This book ended on a major cliffhanger and I will certainly not wait another eleven years to finish this series.
