Much less exciting the the previous book. A large chunk is spent in a school setting and I dislike school drama alot. Raisa constantly going on about being in love with one boy or another hits peak silliness-she literally fleeing from assasins and battles please focus on something besides smooching! The could've done without the 5 billion romantic subplots.
Solid 4.5 stars.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nothing particularly life-altering but it was a well written and very engaging sequel to a story I was already very committed to after book one.
Since it’s YA and it’s not new, I appreciate all the shades of grey in the cast of characters all the more.
This is how it’s done @ authors attempting to write YA high fantasy that doesn’t skirt the issue with all the political aspects. There’s rarely an easy way out and I love that Chima seems very much aware of it.
Han as the male MC? One of the best and if I’d read it at a younger age, I would have been even more all over that.

This was a great sequel. I'm still not on board with the main hero, I think he is an anti-hero, as he is out for revenge, sometimes going beyond what is necessary. I greatly enjoyed Raisa, I think she is a strong princess. I liked the world building and politics. I loved the wizard school and military academy, I thought it was fun to read about.
Great and fast-paced, I'm loving this series! On to book 3.

“But it's not enough to know right from wrong. You need the strength to do what's right, even when what you want most in the world is the wrong thing.”
The Exiled Queen is a good sequel with great characters and an amazing world, even channelling some Harry Potter vibes with its wizards and magical school setting. However, the first quarter of this book is slow-paced, but the rest of the story more than makes up for it.
The world-building is fantastic and I appreciate that we're exploring more of the Seven Realms. I'm such a fan of the tropes, the politics, the lore, the fantasy aspects, the magic system and the themes that are explored, especially those of prejudice and preconceived notions.
“The queendom always comes first, before matters of the heart.”
Raisa really grew on me in this one. Her quick-thinking is impressive and her character development throughout this book is top-notch. I can totally see her blossoming into the princess and future queen she's meant to be. Amon is another great character with a strong sense of duty and the dynamics between him and Raisa add a layer of complexity to both characters and the overall story.
“Han had too many gang lords.”
Han is a character that you can't help but root for. He's got a great combination of recklessness, charisma, street-smarts and wit. It's interesting to see how Han is emerging as a key player as different entities try to incorporate him into their schemes, mostly against his will. The friendship between Dancer and Han is pure gold

especially how Han chooses to confront themI like the idea of Han and Raisa, but I'm not a fan of the relationship progression between them. At the moment, they seem to lack connection, to an extent that I can't take their relationship as seriously as I should.
So, while the first quarter dragged a little, I couldn't put this book down once the story picked up. And that ending?! It left me reaching for the next book as soon as I turned the last page.
“There needed to be places like this—places to read and write and study and argue and debate with all different kinds of people and not have to look over your shoulder all the time. Places where the desire for knowledge overwhelmed boundaries and differences.”
Still as good as the first time... I love Han and Raisa.
The shock of the cliffhanger was muffled, since I know what will happen in the next book. But it's still very exciting

well well, this book was so very Harry Potter. And probably the comparison between the two book saved this one for me.

ahahaha very funny Pottah.

Anyway, last but not the least we have Professor Snape with us.
If this doesn’t remind you of a certain potion class I don't know what will.
Aside from all the good things, we have some bad things too.
Ex: Princess Raisa.
I try so hard to like her but she is just dumb. And too much reckless and such a nosy teenager in a bad way. She will tell you "MY QUEENDOM COMES BEFORE MY EMOTIONS" then will do something so stupid based on her stupid emotions that will want you to slap her for an eternity. I believe the book would have been less frustrating and more enjoyable if she was dead but oh well.
Let's see, if she gains some braincells in the next book.

“I go to school here, same as you,” Han said.
Micah blinked at Han stupidly, the drink slowing him down. “You? Do you even know how to read and write? They can’t have lowered the standards that much.”
“Well,” Han said, “they let you in.”
Also see this,
“You a first year or what?” Max asked.
“Yes,” Micah said. “I’m at Mystwerk House. I just arrived from the Fells this morning. If you’re taking names, you should know that my father is—”

Gryphon turned to face the gawking students. “Newling Alister has demonstrated for us all the price of carelessness and arrogance combined with ignorance. Do take note.” He paused, to let that sink in. “For tomorrow, I want two pages from each of you about your experience in Aediion to share with the rest of the class. Class dismissed.”

She ran off to go to school. Quite dull for a bit and Han is so stupid to realize he wasn’t being used. Not a super deep plot line but enjoyable enough
