Okay this needed to be way more about Raisa the titular Exiled Queen.
Instead we got some Hogwarts-but-harsher stuff and more of Han's POV (and girls falling for him) than I'd have liked. Speaking of romance, I may have spoken too soon in review of book 1 since that aspect definitely amps up and is not entirely appropriately timed considering the situation. I was really looking forward to more politicking and Raisa's thoughts/plans on, well, pretty much everything other than her love life. I mean she literally fell in love with 2 boys in the span of this book, so unless it leads to some serious character development later, making it relevant in retrospect, I will find this difficult to enjoy.
I'm still exceedingly interested in the overarching story and find the world of Seven Realms intriguing, which is why this turn in the plot was a little frustrating. Continuing the multi POVs (that is, not just Raisa and Han) would've been a good idea this time round too, since it introduced new characters and focused on other minor ones. For now, I'll just let the heightened tensions of that ending carry me on to the next book which should be the best so far... If all goes well.

Actual rating: 3.5 stars.
Though this was, for the most part an entertaining read, and was far better than The Demon King, it was not a fantastic read. It has certainly improved and I will probably read book three.

Not a bad read. First third was a bit of filler, but things got more serious once they made it to the academy town. Solid developments and new characters like the mysterious Crow.
Didn’t really end in a great spot, felt like a very sudden halt, but whatever. Next book will definitely pick up like it was just the turn of a page from this one.
