One of my all time favorites. I read this to my kids a lot (try not to cry). It is about unconditional love and giving and kindness.
What a load of maudlin, "abuse-me-please", codependent garbage... there is healthy giving, and then there is giving oneself away totally to those who neither need nor appreciate the gift, and this is a glorification of the latter. What was the man thinking?
I memorized this book cover-to-cover for a presentation at my school about a year ago. It makes me tear up, and I think at least four people in the audience had the same experience. This book is lovely. I think everyone should read it.
This book was so sad for a children's book! I felt so bad for that poor tree who just loved the boy so much! But at the same time it was a great little book that I will love to read to my children someday.

It always makes me cry, but the best re-reading ever was when I came across this:
"the tree who set healthy boundaries" - a parody alternate ending by Topher Payne. Please do yourself a favor and look this up, then replace the problematic pages with these. Still a wonderfully meaningful and engaging story, and you can be fulfilled at the end, instead of grieving and ravaged.

This is literally a two-minute read and it made me cry, so I guess the takeaway is don’t read it after the loss of a parent.
