This book review is now available on my blog at https://www.skylarb.com/single-post/2018/11/16/The-Disturbing-Tale-of-a-Giving-Tree
It is a book about a generous tree who gives to a boy who, as he grows older, continues to take, including her apples to sell, her branches to build a house, her trunk to make a boat, and finally her stump to sit on. Lots of way to interpret what happens, but I just thought it was very sad.
I know this is going to probably earn me some hate, but... I cannot STAND this book.
Seriously. I cannot stand it.
What happens to this tree and this selfish, horrible child is something that grates on me terribly, because I have been in this position. Do you know what happens when one person gives into a relationship and the other doesn't?
Bad things. Very, very bad.
This doesn't teach children to give. It teaches them one should give until that one has nothing left, and ends up getting sat on.
I adore every other Silverstein thing I've encountered. This one, however, is dreadful.

Yeah I don’t even remember when the teacher read this to us.
I can’t log them all I suppose, only the ones I remember.

One of my all time favorite classics. I always get it as a gift for Baby Showers. It’s one of the best told stories of love.
