So basically it's a kid's book, right? Well, even an adult should be able to grasp the concept of unconditional love explained in a very basic way. My son LOVES this book; he is not much of a reader, but reads this book over and over and says it makes him happy at the end. Should be a must-read for adults as well as children.

This book is so emotional, its ridiculous. By the end of it you feel like you are just the most horrible person in the entire world and you need to go out and make a major difference in the world and change the way you live. This book probably has the most amazing message in the most subtle way and in the fewest words. The Giving Tree is a book that all children most definitely read and any adult that never had the chance to read it when they were younger. So basically, everyone needs to read it.

Working in an elementary school library I literally read this book more than 20 times in the same week to all the different classes. Even after that, I *still* get choked up at "But not really."

Excellent book that anyone can enjoy. A great lesson in learning to enjoy what we have, because it won't always be there.

This was my favorite story to read with my mom. It's kind of sad (at least to me) but it has a good point behind it and it's all about growing up.
