3.5 not Kafka's greatest works

If I could rate Kafka separately this would be given a higher assessment.

I am biased and hot and cold with Maupassant so The Englishman and The Necklace were worth the listen, but the rest of the short stories seemed a bit aimless… not so much a comment on the craft which was splendid but the content was not my favorite.

Perhaps seek out the stories individually!

My favourites were "Josefine, the songstress or: The Mouse People" and "A fasting-artist."

I really struggled to get into this. Because it was originally written in German, the rhythm is very clunky and mechanic. Although the two short stories I mentioned above were written almost like a spoken word where Kafka is using the stories as a way to speak on his views on the world which were vastly more enjoyable to me. Metamorphosis was more funny than philosophical. I think I'd like to read "Letters to Milena" or "Letter to my father" because I enjoyed reading about his personal views more than his stories. The short stories are very very absurd and read more like a play. Kafka likes characters to speak to themselves to explain word for word what they are thinking than describing it in the earlier short stories but the later ones are more on the descriptive side.

"I cannot make you understand. I cannot make anyone understand what is happening inside me. I cannot even explain it to myself."

Turkish version was not a pleasant read at all... Must be the translation, I enjoyed it in English much more.
